VHS : Mickey's Christmas Carol
"Mickey's Christmas Carol" is a retelling of Charles Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol" in animation with familiar Disney cartoon characters in all the roles.

Scrooge McDuck leads as Ebenezer Scrooge, greedy London businessman and miser, with Mickey Mouse as his underpaid and underappreciated clerk Bob Crachit and Donald Duck as Scrooge's nephew Fred. Goofy is Jacob Marley, Scrooge's dead partner, come to warn Scrooge on Christmas Eve of the terrible fate awaiting him in the afterlife if he does not reform his ways. As in Dickens' novel, Scrooge is visted by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, and learns his lesson.

This is family entertainment with a lesson. In just 25 minutes, Disney has managed to capture the essentials of the story, hopefully ... Read More

VHS : Ducktales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp (Disney Movietoons Presents)
When I saw this movie as a kid, it was without a doubt my favorite. However, after seeing the movie many years later, I've come to realize why critics refered to this as an "Indiana Jones rip-off". The film satisfies viewers with its amazing opening as Scrooge and gang travel in the middle of a desert to find the lost treasure of Coli Baba. Then after that, the rest of the film takes place in Duckburg. See where I'm going. This movie could've been so much more, but yet it lost its chance to not only gain a posisitve reputation among fans and critics, but also spawn a sequel or two (there were plans for several DuckTales movies following this one). Overall, its an entertaining movie for younger kids with the exception of some fans, but it falls short of capturing the true spirit of the DuckTales series. ... Read More

VHS : The Incredible Hulk (Animated Series)
83 minutes in four episodes of the Incredible Hulk's animated series is just not enough value for your dollar. Buy this only if your child absolutely loves the Hulk and is too young to watch the PG-13 rated live action film, The Incredible Hulk, starring Edward Norton. Check my review of that DVD (good movie but absolutely not for little kids).

I game a similar review to the first animated DVD from The Spectacular Spider-Man, the new series from the WB. You should get more for your money than 3-4 episodes. In the case of Spider-Man, it looks promising that the entire first series will be released. So far, the Hulk hasn't had the same luck.

Also, please avoid the new Avengers animated DVDs. I made the mistake of picking these up without checking the ratings -- they feature the Hulk, ... Read More

VHS : The Great Mouse Detective (A Walt Disney Classic)
Smoking, drinking, stripping and even gun violence. These are things you wouldn't expect from a Disney film. I saw the film when I was about 5 years old and remember thinking about how much fun it would be to be in the midst of a bar fight like the one in this movie. I will never forget how shocked I was to see the burlesque dancer take off her seemingly modest attire to reveal an hour glass half-dressed figure with a garter and blue fishnets. The reaction from the crowd, the sexual tension she created with her stripping- I wanted to be there!

Here's a quote from the song Let Me Be Good To You
"Hey fellas- i'll take off all my clothes. Hey fellas- there's nothing I won't do just for you!"

But apart from the bar scene, there were multiple depictions of drunkeness and more smoking ... Read More

VHS : Chapter Two
Pleasant entertainment, good performances by Marsha Mason and Valerie Harper. I sure wish it would come out on DVD. While you're at it, how about making the soundtrack available on CD? That final song by Marilyn McCoo has been in the can far too long! C'mon Rastar, Sony Pictures, anyone listening?

VHS : Time Machine (1960)
This is one of the best movies ever made. This isn't just a classic, this movie is one of the movies that paved the way for other sci fi movies. This is as much of a classic as Wizard of Oz or Gone with the Wind and in my opinion this is better than both of those movies put together.
