What to say about a movie like this? Claudette Colbert is adorable. Clark Gable is at his alpha-male finest. Frank Capra used his tried and true formula with humor to make one of the best romantic comedies of the 1930's.

A rebellious rich girl, Ellie Andrews (Colbert), runs away from her rich father because of his opposition to her marriage to King Westley, not a monarch but an upper class snob that her father loathes. Who should she run into on a bus while fleeing than none other than a brash just-fired reporter named Peter Warne, played by Gable. Let the war games begin as Colbert and Gable engage in the sophisticated and very funny running banter that makes the movie so appealing.

Her flight via the bus, and other forms of travel, is the vehicle for moving ... Read More

Tnis is a Christmas gift for my son but this has to be one of my favorite all time movies. I love Errol Flynn and his athleticism and his anything goes attitude made this a fun movie to watch. The cast was a oerfect match and played well off each other. A must see on regular dvd so it must be really spectacular in bluray.

How much more Red, White and Blue can you get then this tribute to America during WW2. The songs are great, the acting excellent, and the story just makes you want to cheer for Uncle Sams boys! Of course the use of Joe Lewis was odd...but then he was a big name and national hero. This has been a favorite of mine since the 1960's when I saw it on TV. A must for any movie collector.

So, I'm reading these reviews, and it seems that a lot of people like to talk about things that they DO NOT know about. First, I would like to say that this is a good movie. It would never be one of my favorites, but it definitely was well made. So now that that's out of the way....I would never say that the character of Delilah is "understandable for those times" as if her portrayal was realistic. However, her portrayal as a "mammy" is understandable because most portrayals of African Americans in early film had to do with the five basic character types(mammy, tom, coon, buck, and mulatto). Realistically, if you were living through the Great Depression would you give complete ownership of a recipe to someone else who will make millions off of it? I just think it's funny that people find Delilah ... Read More

I was not expecting much when I sat down to watch this movie for the first time. It had received pretty mediocre reviews on this site, but I bought it regardless, simply because of the good price and because I am infatuated with Clark Gable. After watching this movie, I did not understand why people were so unimpressed with it. It is one of the prized movies in my collection.

This film is short and sweet, and gets directly to the point. Basically the plot revolves around Greta and Gable's seemingly hopeless romance, which is pretty standard, but for some reason this movie is not standard. It is great.

Clark is impeccable in this early role. He really held his own and Greta did a good job as well, though it is not amongst her best roles, certainly.

The direction is very interesting ... Read More

I grew up with Army football from 1944 to 1946. I have a library of original highlight films detailing the plays, statistics and major games played by Blanchard and Davis. For anyone who knows Army football, the research, scripting and editing in this film are grossly innacurate. There's no excuse for it in a Hollywood budgetted film. For example the play-by-play announcers describe plays that never happened in the games that are on the screen, ie., Doc Blanchard returning a kickoff 96 yards against Notre Dame. He did that against Columbia, but it was announced as a game against Notre Dame. This type of free-form scripting/editing happens throughout the film. It cheapens what should have been a truly representative movie about two great American athletes. On the positive side, it's always great to see Blanchard and Davis in action. I ... Read More
