VHS : The Wind in the Willows
I believe that a narrator can really make an audio book and Flo Gibson does such a fabulous job of the voices of the characters in "The Wind in the Willows". This is one of my son's all time favorite books and audio books. I highly recommend it.

VHS : Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas (Walt Disney Gold Classic Collection)
The joys and lessons of Christmases past are revisited in three enchanting, lesson-filled tales featuring Disney's favorite cartoon characters - in the first story, Donald's nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie remember the time they wished Christmas was every day and it came true! As they relive Christmas day over and over again, the fun soon turns monotonous and boring, and along the way, the boys learn the true meaning of Christmas.

In the second story, Goofy and his son Max confront the 'myth' of Santa Claus - Goofy is a true believer and Max turns out to be skeptic after next door neighbor Pete tells him Santa isn't real. It takes a lot of effort and some magic before Max comes around:)

In the last story, Mickey and Minnie play down-on-their luck sweethearts whose purse strings ... Read More

VHS : Spirit of West Point
I grew up with Army football from 1944 to 1946. I have a library of original highlight films detailing the plays, statistics and major games played by Blanchard and Davis. For anyone who knows Army football, the research, scripting and editing in this film are grossly innacurate. There's no excuse for it in a Hollywood budgetted film. For example the play-by-play announcers describe plays that never happened in the games that are on the screen, ie., Doc Blanchard returning a kickoff 96 yards against Notre Dame. He did that against Columbia, but it was announced as a game against Notre Dame. This type of free-form scripting/editing happens throughout the film. It cheapens what should have been a truly representative movie about two great American athletes. On the positive side, it's always great to see Blanchard ... Read More

Add a star (****) for the picture; subtract a star (**) for the lousy colorization. Whatever happened to the original b&w version?

Cary Grant and Constance Bennett are two recently deceased fun-loving, rich party-goers who come back to haunt the life of straight-laced banker Cosmo Topper (played by Roland Young). Bennett turns Topper's life so upside-down that he leaves his wife to have a good time with her. Of course it's all made right again before too much damage is done. The first 1/3 and the last 1/3 are the best parts; the middle part sort of drags. The picture is lots of fun. Worth a watch.

VHS : The Willows in Winter
I don't know which movie other, negative reviewers watched, but I find it hard to believe it was this one.

My kids love this movie, and have watched it again and again.

All the Wind in the Willows characters are here, and the story line, acting, and animations are just as great as in the first, full-length animation of the original classic, Wind in the Willows.

Get a copy, and have fun.

This is perhaps the only decent DVD of this movie available. The previous no-extras release was pan-and-scan, but the print appears to have been a tad cleaner than the one used for this wide-screen edition. The extras are all right: The best is about how the film came to the big screen. The weakest is the oddly edited collection of outtakes. The "behind the scenes with..." extra is good, but it is clear that the interviews were each only a few seconds long and nothing like the extended commentary you'll hear on, say, a Peter Jackson extra. The audio commentary is probably the best thing going.

All in all, if five stars is a "Isnt' that faaaaaaaaaaaaabulous?!?" and one star is a "two slags at a pie bake-off", this ranks 4.5 stars. The film alone is worth it!
