VHS : Death Becomes Her
One of the best 'big' special effects comedies of the 1990's...fantastic support from all the main stars make this a cult classic i feel, which didnt do as well as perhaps Zemeckis other work at the box office..still a great, deliciously dark and witty comedy.

Now for the minus star...why has this not been re-released on DVD with a widescreen, HD like transfer, full surround sound and extra features???? Very dissapointing Universal....

As soon as you see the name Larry McMurty, you know it's going to be a very, very long movie in which very, very little happens. McMurty seems to specialize in taking short stories and padding them into three-volume novels. This movie, of which he only wrote the screenplay, is no exception. The scenery and music keep it from being a total waste and the gritty, dirty sets.

Western fans may be annoyed by a couple of places where credibility is strained in how the character handles a dangerous situation. Also, the big, big buildup to a climactic scene leads to a fizzle ending. The characters are not, in fact, well developed but are stereotypes. The British lord and his man-servant are comic book material, not only stereotypes but highly prejudiced stereotypes.

VHS : National Lampoon's Attack of the 5'2" Women
This video contains two movie shorts starring JULIE BROWN. She has repeatedly shown she is a woman with an enourmous Funny Bone, and this is no exception. My favorite song is "Queen of the Ice". Just hilarious. She should have release all these songs on another album. Already have "Trapped in the body of a White Girl" from the 80's and it was fantastic as well. JUST LOVE HER!!

VHS : Too Far to Go
Fact: Michael Moriarty is simply incapable of being boring---even when miscast as he is here and saddled with an absurd New England accent that makes him sound like the Stage Manager in Our Town. In spite of these factors, I found my eyes glued on him for the length of this film---ditto for Blythe Danner, an actress of equal intelligence, sensitivity, and grace who is also miscast. These two youthful performers (the film was made 24 years ago) portray middle-aged suburbanites who, despite the presence of numerous children (one college-aged who looks older than her father)seem to have nothing better to do than ask each other questions like "Have you taken a lover?" Nevertheless, there are fascinating moments here: a couple of love scenes (too short for my money), a touching scene in which the couple ... Read More

...several scenes are highly unbelievable. Don't get me wrong, the movie has many delightful scenes as my wife would put it, but the following ones were a bit over the top.

I don't consider these spoilers, just wanted to list a few examples.

* A poker game so serious that the building they are playing in becomes inundated with floodwaters from a storm, so bad that the very table they are playing on begins to float...all while they continue to play???
* While getting lost in a snow storm, they end up hunkering around a tree all night, giving in to impending doom. While I realize that snow will act as a blanket from the freezing weather, thus probably saving their lives, I cannot believe that the very morning sun would melt all the snow around them before they awake???

VHS : Mystic Pizza
Mystic Pizza is a workplace drama that takes place on the East Coast in the town of Mystic, Connecticut. It was filmed at the actual pizza parlor that inspired Amy Jones to write the story, in the town of Mystic at 55 West Main St. After the movie came out the joint became very popular. The movie isn't that great, but like pizza, even a bad pizza is still pretty good. Hey, it's pizza. The town is a fishing village with a high concentration of Portuguese, which is what Daisy (Julia Roberts) and Kat Arujo (Annabeth Gish) are. They have so much lobster there that the locals actually get tired of it. That's when they go out for pizza.

Mystic Pizza is best remembered as the film that launched Julia Roberts on the road to stardom. Her smile lights up the silver screen, and it is very apparent that the ... Read More
