11.GE 21739 26 Watt (100 Watt equivalent) Energy Smart Outdoor Floodlight PAR38 Light Bulb 3 Count from: General Electric

Tools & Hardware : GE 21739 26 Watt (100 Watt equivalent) Energy Smart Outdoor Floodlight PAR38 Light Bulb 3 Count

My first impression of this light is that it warms up VERY slowly. It takes over 60 seconds before it puts out usable light. After that warm-up period, light output is very good, comparable with a 120watt MISER halogen flood. Perhaps the color is a bit more blueish, but that's subtle and subjective. Overall, after one week, I'm happy with the light, but I find myself leaving it on more than I should because it is so slow to restart once I turn it off.

Just want folks to be aware that these measure approximately 6.5" in length, or about an inch longer than a typical-sized incandescent bulb (like 60 or 100 W variety). I was interested in getting one of these to replace the 50/100/150 W incandescent bulb in my living room lamp (the tall, free-standing kind), but found it too be too long as it comes out of the top by about an inch. For now I am waiting for a company to come out with a CFL 50/100/150 equivalent that matches up in size better.

At a little over 10 bucks for 8 of these, you can't go wrong.

These are just your basic CFLs, at the 2700 kelvin temperature range. That means they're about the same shade as your basic ordinary 60W incandescent bulb. A pale yellow white, not pure white (5100 Kelvin), or daylight (around 6300 Kelvin).

Pure white or daylight CFLS cost more because the phosphors in them are more expensive, but they do have the advantage of being more natural light, rather than imitating the poor quality light of an ordinary light bulb.

So if you're thinking of upgrading to CFLs these bulbs are a great deal to start from. But do take advantage of the technology & get a higher quality light at a higher color temperature for some of your areas, & enjoy better quality light, rather ... Read More

I will be returning these bulbs.

I have about 20 light fixtures in my house that use floodlights. With incandescent bulbs, these fixtures bring a certain "light quality" to vaulted ceilings, hallways, accents in bay windows, etc.

These bulbs do not measure up to incandescent lighting. The color temperature is stark--I put two of these into a short hallway, near where some other can lights contain incandescent bulbs. The different in color temperature is quite striking--these put out a very white light--so white I feel that the hallway is in a commercial building.

These bulbs are also extremely dim compared to 65 watt incandescent bulbs. To me, they appear to be about 50% as bright. Not very inspiring.

On the bright side, they are "instant on"--I don't notice ... Read More

I bought a few of these to replace the bulbs in my bathroom. What I really love about these bulbs is that they slowly get brighter and within 30seconds they are at their brightest. Granted they aren't the brightest bulbs like the conventional ones, but they are bright enough for the bathroom. I'm so happy with these bulbs because I get up at 630am for work and the last thing I need are bright lights when I still haven't "woken up yet." They start off dim and work there way to bright. My eyes easily get used to the lights when they are at their brightest. I did notice after having them for a full month for my electric bill, the bill was slightly lower so that's a plus.

These bulbs are very efficient, bright (for the bathroom), and won't empty your wallet also. They certainly last longer than the conventional ... Read More

Indeed, I finally found a CFL bulb that fits in my ceiling fan. This little bulb is awesome. It lights instantly, though it does take about thirty seconds to get to full brightness. The color is perfect, like a halogen bulb. Doesn't make a noise when on or get too hot either. I hope it will last a while, though obviously I can't wait years to write that into my review. This two pack was a bit pricey, but seeing as it's actually a name brand and a micro-mini style that would explain the extra cost. Really, I'm just glad the thing fits into my ceiling fan. Six years it took to find one that would, and provide enough light!!

I used some of these bulbs in an overhead fixture that originally used incandescent bulbs. I've used dimmable fluorescent bulbs before so I know that you can't dim them quite as low as a regular bulb. They probably dim to about 20% which suits our application just fine. I've been using the bulbs daily for about 2 years and they're working just fine. I've found that if you turn them on and let wait a few minutes you are able to dim them down further than if you just turn them on and dim them right away.

I'm very happy with the bulbs and even more happy with the money I'm saving on electricity, not to mention that they don't give off a lot of heat like incandescent bulbs do. That can help in the summer when you're trying to keep the house cool and maybe even save a little on the air conditioning.
