The biggest problem that we've had trying to use CFL bulbs is the color temperature of the bulbs is too different and not broad enough to look like an incandescent bulb. The result is a blue'ish light that feels cold and hard (at least to me). This bulb is one of the best I've seen at reproducing the light from a "regular" light bulb. Add to that the shape of the bulb (not spiral) and it's a great replacement. Also note that spiral bulbs tend to be extremely bright to look directly at (walk up to your lamp and look into the shade when one is running!). For some reason this bulb does not seem as bright as it is rated. It also warms up very slowly, only reaching full brightness after a minute. Daylight quality light is fine.

This would have been the perfect answer to my need except that the product quality is incredibly shoddy. I bought three sets of three lights each and two of the bulbs failed to work right out of the box, two more failed within a few months. Replacement bulbs cost more than a new fixture and can't be found locally. Don't buy it.

Yup, it works. I keep one in the closet with my cat's litter box. I gave another to a friend who has some "sugargliders" -- they produce a smell similar to ferrets; she just turns on the light in their cage room when they go out for their daily play. I also had a problem with nightly, airbourne mold in my apartment, which cause my eyes to tear up and my throat to swell. This lightbulb made nights livable while I waited on the landlord to find the source of the problem.
