I installed one in our kitchen (in a recessed lighting can above our sink). Since the area the bulb is installed in is normally dark, we tend to leave the light on at all times. I initially bought this CFL for it's long life and energy savings, but while most R20 incandescent lamps I've tried last about 6 months in continuous operation, this model only lasted 2 weeks! After reading some reviews on this model (post-mortem), I found out that it is not recommended for recessed lighting applications like mine. What's worse is that the packaging did not mention this rather important fact. Oh well, maybe another model will fare better.

It does not matter how much it saves for you; it matters how many people are going to use fluorescent light bulbs in order to lower the total energy consumption. Think of 1e7 households using a table lamp for 4hrs a day with either a incandescent bulb (40W) or a 14W fluorescent light bulb. The diffeence is a energy saving of 65kWh per day! Bottom line: go for it even if the inital cost is a bit more expensive.

We found ourselves squinting as if caught in some police interrogation. To top it all off, they came in a box with no packing material to cushion the bulbs. Half arrived broken.

What a bright light for so little used electricity. This one CFL replaces six 60 watt incandescent bulbs in our ceiling fixture and also the output is much brighter. The package says saves $130 over the life of this bulb, if it replaced a filament 150 bulb. It must be twice the saving, as it replaces 300 hungry watts. I ordered more!
