I have to replace this FX12P filter only after 4 months of use (I bought a new GXRM10G filter set from Home Depot). Suddenly one day the GXRM10G stopped working - no water out of the faucet. I disassembled it. The post-filter looked OK (still white), but the pre-filter one became black. Worse, the pre-filter then stopped to filter the water well, so as result it damaged the RO membrane, making me to replace all of them. My water quality is fine - for years we have drunk from the faucet. We use the filter just after having children That contradicts to what they claim that the pre-filter can last 6 months and the RO membrance can last 3 years. I understand your complaint, and I'm sure it's valid (I still have an old metal Culligan filter in my fridge), but what did you do to resolve the problem? I see that Amazon lists an MXRC filter for $150 or so. Did you buy that one instead? Does it not have the problem?

It was easy to install this cartridge for the water filter on the line that goes to the ice maker in the refrigerator. The hardest part was getting behind the refrigerator to shut the water supply off. After that, you just twist gently and pull the old cartridge out and then align and push the new cartridge in and twist. It came with instructions which explain the process well.

Drinking water faucet is made of chromed plastic. The plastic button on the handle falls out and can be easily lost. The rate of water flow is frustratingly slow. To fill a 12 cup coffee reservoir takes several minutes. This flow rate is begining to degrade as time passes (30 days) since installation. The installation was not too bad, but I had to purchase a new flexible faucet supply line because the adapter for the filtration system shortens the path between the water supply valve and the cold water stub on the sink faucet. Also, a watch style battery comes with each filter cartridge, but they do not tell you how/where to install it. It goes in the plastic faucet handle, but the polarity is a crap shoot.
