As with all bluegrass this one took about 4 weeks in early spring to germinate. But with twice daily watering with the occasional skipped day, this seed germinated well. All I had to do was scrape the hard packed soil with a rake and spread the seed. Bluegrass seed prefers a soil temp of 65 degrees and my soil temp was closer to 40-55 degrees. Warmer soil might have spurred the growth a bit more.

I'm here on Amazon looking for a different spreader after I bought this one from Home Depot yesterday. I used it today and it has to be the flimsiest piece of junk I've ever used. The main problem, other than how cheap it is, is that the fertilizer flow does not stop after you release the handle. This spreader replaced a Scott's Speedy Green that broke while I was using it. At least that lasted a few years but eventually a plastic piece that controls the discharge opening broke. I would say that if you do your own fertilizing a few times a year that you look for something better made. I thought Scott's used to stand for something.

I bought two of these one lasted three applications, the other lasted two.Save the heartburn I had, and buy the Gilmour brass hose end sprayer, its like night and day. It only cost five or six dollars more, but you have something that will last you a lifetime. Yes it is also made in the USA. Check it out , I got a good price right here on Amazon when I bought it. If you are wanting to use this fertilizer for it's stated purpose, and you live somewhere like southern Louisiana, and you have St. Augustine grass; STOP!!!!!!! As it turns out, this so-called winterizer has a very high Nitrogen number and a low potassium number. This is the exact opposite formula that you should use according to the LSU agriculture center. "To winterize Southern, warm-season lawns, apply a fertilizer with more potash than nitrogren. Potash is represented by the third number on a fertilizer bag, while nitrogen is shown as the first.
