So far, I've had this for a couple of months and it has been reliable. It could be a lot better, though. First, the programming is complicated and not intuitive. There is no way to tell what program you've created, so you have to reset it and start over if you want to make sure. Also, there should be something to indicated whether you've turned the program on or off--you have to turn it off if you want to open the valve for any reason, like using the hose for another purpose. Then, you have to turn the program on again if you want it to be active, but there's no simple way to look and see if the program is on or off. Like a number of other customers I, too, was pleased with this product - until it broke. I was moving the hose when it pulled the timer right off the hose bib. Yes, the instructions say be careful and I was.

I expected this timer to last more than three months. It will turn the water on and off but will not allow me to set the time the water should be on. Phooey!

I bought this sprinkler because Nelson no longer makes a metal version and also discontinued repairs in spite of the warrenty. The Melnor is metal, heavier than plastic models, of course, and therefore more stable. It is nicely finished and there were no missing parts. I had two complaints: The directions were incomplete, neglecting to review the spray pattern symbols, and the domed mesh filter is loose so that it falls out when you remove the hose. The spray patterns were easy enough to discern with a little experimentation. I bought a 2 inch brass on/off valve with a revolving hose coupling which stays permanently on the unit and therefore always holds the filter in place. Overall, I was pleased with the weight and functioning of the sprinkler and would buy it again.

this sprinkler works great. only have to move it once on our giant lawn! i like how you can move the spray to be narrow or wide. great price too!

I bought this water timer last month to handle critical watering of my garden while on vacation. It is difficult to be sure of correct setup as mentioned in other reviews, but I did verify operation before leaving on vacation. At some point, the timer completely quit working and no watering occurred at that point. Batteries were new, and all directions were followed. It is waste of money to buy this product. Worse, you can suffer damage to plants that did not get watered.

I've been using these timers for about 20 years. I love that you can choose either minutes/hours or gallons (hundreds). I know my water rate goes up after 10,000 gallon, so this helps me keep track of usage in my gardens. My ONLY complaint is that the paper "guide" doesn't seem to last as long now as it used to. These latest ones I bought are starting to come off after just 3 months!! My last timers lasted 15+ years!
