I finally got to take out my new Mantis system and use the small chainsaw attachement. The first day of trimming 4" branches worked great but on the second day a grinding noise started coming from inside the gear box (located just between the plastic oil resevoir). In about 5 more minutes the chain would stop turning the minute it touched a branch. This means the gears stripped inside the motor. I hardly used it and certainly was not hard on it. Just poor quality for a $90.00 attachement.

Bought this attachment for my Mantis and it works great. The problem is with Amazon. I bought it for around ninety dollars, then the price dropped to under sixty dollars. Up until their unpublicized policy change in September, you could request the difference in price credited back to you if the purchase was less than 30 days before price drop. I guess I bought mine after the deadline, as I requested a credit for the price difference and was denied stating their new policy. Since I now have no recourse if a better price is advertised,I have been more hesitant buying products from Amazon since the policy change.

I was fortunate to get this here for $45 w/ FS vs. the $75 plus shipping Mantis sells it for on their website. It is a nice grade vinyl cover made to fit the composter vs. throwing a tarp over it as I had done. I just don't know how long it will hold up and think it is a bit overpriced. Of course I thought the composter was overpriced too even after getting another great deal on it through Amazon.

We are avid gardeners and creating beds the old-fashion way using a fork was back-breaking. This little tiller is the does the nice edging and the tilling! In cold weather, the 4-cycle engine fires-up after a few pulls. When warm, a single pull is all that is required. It weighs about 20lbs and is easy to maneuver. The changing of times to the edger attachment takes less than a minute. The tines are super strong! We have very rocky soil and to my surprise, the tines have lasted this long! Tilling has never been so easy. Mantis has created a product that almost every gardener can use. We are more than satisfied with it!

I bought this primarily for the line trimmer attachment and haven't tried the other attachments. As a line trimmer, it has pluses and minuses, but overall, I wouldn't recommend it for line trimming. I suspect it is probably pretty good with the hedge trimmer and tree pruning attachments, as noted by one reviewer who liked these. As a line trimmer, here are my pros and cons. PROS: - Good cutting swath (about 16" - 5" diameter spool plus double line, each about 5-1/2"). - Double line (never buy a trimmer with just one - based on experience, single lines have wimpy cutting ability). - Heavy gauge line (.095" - this is pro quality and about as good as it gets, it helps withstand wear and breakage). - Overall a sturdy well-built machine with high-quality materials. ...
