We've had two of these (one upstairs and one downstairs) for 2+ years. They work great. They are easy to set up. Some complain about the beeping at start... it stops after a 30 second start up diognostic. (Read the manual). The upstairs unit is hung on the wall between bedrooms. The downstairs unit moves back and forth between the hot water heater (condo unit) or the ventless NG fireplace. I can check for peak levels of CO, which is at most 10ppm... and that's only when gas appliances start up... which is normal. When I place the unit in the center of our downstairs, away from the NG units, no CO levels ever register. It's nice to have the peace of mind the units afford us. This is the second one of the smoke alarms I have bought. The first one went seven years with no problems. Then it started alerting that it was time for a new alarm. So of course I replaced it with the same alarm. In another seven years I will replace it with the same alarm again if I can. This smoke detector is great.

We've had this CO detector plugged in for over six years and the only time it ever sounded an alarm was when we had hardwood floors installed in our house. I'm not sure what triggered the alarm but it got everyone's attention. It's LOUD. There's no way anyone will sleep through this sound. You can hear the alarm outside when it's going off inside. Once the alarm sounds you have to power it off to silence it. Since it's sort of difficult to tell if a particular CO detector is working properly, we've diversified by having three different models in our house. You should be able to test the Kidde Nighthawk unit (or any other unit with a digital readout) by placing it close to burning material, or next to the exhaust pipe on your car, but we haven't done that. the ladder is long enough for 3 stories and seems to be easy to use. i purchased as a gift for family. hopefully they'll never need it. i esp. like it because it seems more stable and stands well away from the building. think it might have been a little hard to repack after they checked it out though, hence 4 stars.

I debated with myself whether this review will help anyone. I ordered two of these and replaced two really old smoke detectors. Everything went well and as far as I can tell they are working. I installed them on 10/23/08. I like the idea of dual sensors. The batteries were easier to install than the old system. The alarm would always go off when replacing those batteries. Nice touch that batteries came with the product. Since all went well I give them 5 stars. If anything happens to change this I will update my review. I don't think it's possible to change a given rating however.

I purchased this Kitchen fire extinguisher for our kitchen and it arrived promptly and in good fully charged condition. I have not used it and hope I never need to. Because this is a disposable unit that cannot be recharged I cannot test it. I deduct 1 star because I cannot test it.
