I have a 15 year old Stanley opener with tiny switches and a 5 year old Genie electronic system and they are both programmed with this opener. A built-in opener sold by the auto dealers can cost over $400. Multiply that by the number of vehicles you put it in and it can get stupid expensive. This was less than $30. The instructions tell you how to program each button based on lists of names of different systems. It took some time to figure out which settings to use because my older system didn't work with the suggested programming and I had to experiment. I did get frustrated at the beginning. I had searched locally for replacement for my failed unit in town at Home Depot and Lowes, and all they carried were GENIE products. I was mistakingly told I could use the GENIE UNIVERSAL product at Home Depot, but this is incorrect...glad I found this, as it was a direct replacement of the unit I had, set up took all of 10 minutes, and works great now (in fact, it is probably better than the one I replaced, since that one had a very cheap 'connector' for the wire to attach to the units, that would occasionally vibrate loose. This unit has direct wiring into them...Much better !

First: this product is intended for Security+ garage door openers made before 2005. If you have a Security+ opener with a grey antenna wire and/or an red/orange "learn" button on the back, you should be all set. Hopefully, that helps out anyone deciding which model they need. My opener was made in '97 and has the orange button, and it took me longer to read the instructions than it took to actually program this to work with my opener. You hit the button, enter the code you want, and hold down the Enter button for a few seconds. That's it. Mounting it was a breeze. You put a screw in where you want to hang the keypad, slide the keypad on the screw, and then put in a second screw where the battery goes (just under the pad) to keep it secure.
