Please read the reviews, this product is horrible!! Chirping at 3:30 AM for NO REASON is the norm. I've had 3 of these, new backup batteries and all, and they all fail. Go elsewhere, I am.

Originally had BRK alarms, but did research anyway as my alams were 15 years old. After doing my research decided on replacing all four of my existing alarms with this model, SC9120B. For just a few dollars more I figured it was worth having the CO2 detector on all levels of the house. Installation was simple, I replaced the connectors with the power on, if you are careful and do not ground yourself if is much faster. You will get a shock if you are not careful. Actually I got one when doing the cathedral ceiling unit. The units went right in. HOWEVER one of the units was defective, it worked but did not trigger the other units to go off. If you need to mount a fire/smoke detector in a hallway, near a bathroom, than this is the detector for you. I've had zero false alarms. The price was lower than most other detectors. It seems to be working well. -J19

I recently read that 10 years is about the life of a smoke detector. I just passed my tenth anniversary in my home that I remodeled. So time for a redo of all my hard Wired detectors. They were by BRK so it was easy to get these and replace them. I replaced the old yellowing base mounts so now they're all white and clean. I changed out one smoke detector with this CO detector as it was 6 feet from another smoke detector. Plug 'n Play. It was an easy switch out and they all worked well. The old ones worked great for ten years. I hope they never really have to do their job, but I feel like they will just fine. I test them periodically.

The product pictured has a battery door which is the 9120B, not the 9120 as labeled (and shipped to me). This model is hard wired like the 9120B, but is missing the battery backup. Without a battery backup the smoke detector will not work in case of a power loss. I'm not quite sure why thy make a model like this, but for me it is useless and now I have to ship back the product because Amazon did not appropriately represent the product.

The BRK/First Alert photoelectric smoke alarms series 7010 are great near kitchen areas. We bought an ionization alarm for the hallway adjacent to the kitchen and it went off everytime we cooked a meal (that didn't involve boiling water). The alarm was wired in, so I had to turn off the fuse everytime we cooked. The ionization alarms register any oil based smoke, even if it isn't visible to our eyes. While the photoelectric alarms register only thick smoldering smoke. So, I would say use the photoelectric near kitchens, but use the ionization alarms upstairs or away from the kitchen due to the increased sensitivity.
