This splitting axe is well worth the money that I spent on it. When I initially got it, I swung at the first few logs with my full force. I ended up splitting the log and burying the head of the axe completely in the ground. Green wood takes more effort and logs with knots in them can also take a couple of whacks to get them split, but for my purpose of providing wood for evening and weekend fireplace fires, this axe was perfect.

This is a solid well balanced hatchet. You can easily cut down trees up to four inches or so. The saw is a nice addition but it will come loose from the axe handle if you really get into your cutting. This item is much more useful than the cheap camp axes sold at most retail stores.

This Gerber camp axe with sheath (clam) is a beaut. It exudes quality. The 45905 is light and short, perfect for one hand use, but not to worry, this axe is balanced prefectly for splitting medium to large diameter (18-20") logs and for cutting logs, limbs, or trunks with ease. The blade is shaped well for splitting and the steel is first rate; it holds an edge well and sharpens easily. This is the hand axe all others should be compared to in the camp axe market. Moreover, the price is very good.

This hatchet is sharp. No question. It's balanced well and nicely engineered and crafted. I am using it to split kindling which it does superbly. It is a good weight for light duty splitting. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the plastic handle is slippery, especially with any glove material that tends to get slippery with cold and ice...nylon, fleece etc. I suspect I can find a way to solve that on my own but I am a little surprised, given the quality of design and engineering, that wasn't taken into account in the first place.

This axe goes through wood like a hot knife through butter. Well balanced and a pleasure to use.

It seems fiskars has crossed over to the dark side. when i recieved my brush axe it had a stiker on the back of the sheath that said MADE IN CHINA. i couldn't find FINLAND anywhere on the product. WHY FISKARS,WHY!!! i was very irritated, becase the picture said FINLAND and my other fiskar tools were also made in FINLAND, so i was exspacting it to be made in FINLAND, NOT CHINA! So to see if it was still fiskars quality i took a walk into the woods and put it to the test. I hacked and slashed through a 3" dried ceader,many grape vines rangeing from less than half an inch to 4" and umpteen saplings. the brush axe passed,it's blade was still shape with no necks, and it wasn't rattling. it is still a good quality tool ,but i would of liked much more if it was made in finland. ... I can't recommend this axe enough. Cut through my logs like a hot knife through butter.

This combo axe and knife was for a grandson that does a lot of backpacking in the Rockies. It is light and handy for that purpose. Now his dad can turn over the prep of kindling to him..!
