First of all, I don't like chainsaws. So, I was excited to learn of this product. It works as advertised and makes me feel much safer during its use. I would recommend this product for those who want to get work done that until now has been strictly the domain of the chainsaw.

This is a great chainsaw. I spent some time researching the right one to get and Consumer reports was right on with this one. It works great, very powerful. I have used it to chop through 10" branches and nothing has even given it a hiccup yet. Cuts through trees like butter! It's great if you don't need a highly portable saw. You are limited only by your extension cord.

I do not ofter leave a review, but in this case I wanted to leave one. I concider myself to be a pro when it comes to tools and can give them a run for the money even on a first try. Reviewers have mentioned burned up motors and too hard to build, this saw was a cinch to build, and if they used the oil, motors and chains are not burning up for a long time. For an 8 amp motor and the 14" chain it can cut almost as well as any midrange gas and most high end electric chain saws. Kickback was a minimum and I was able to cut up limbs upto 9" round and remove 500 sqft of thick brush in no time. Even as a saw for its price its better to own one of these then to rent one for a small job.

I purchased this saw for a 'yard' tool on my acreage, to break tree trunks and limbs down to firewood length. Delivery was prompt, the price was right, and my first impressions of the Poulan 3 1/2 hp are very favorable. The bar and chain are the same size and type as my old Homelite saw, and the weight is similar. I'm using a 25' #14ga. extension cord at present, with no sign of excessive heat in the cord. This is my first a.c. electric saw, and I'm very impressed with the torque, cutting ability, and overall utility of this unit. A few years ago one of our large mature honey locust trees (50'+ tall) fell onto our house during a pretty ferocious windstorm. Unfortunately for us we didn't own a chainsaw, but our neighbor had this little monster and boy was it a lifesaver! We were outside cutting the tree off the house for a good six hours straight and this thing didn't slowdown the least bit. Not once did it bog down or couldn't make it through the hard wood of the locust. The size of the saw was perfect, compact enough to get into a lot of tight spots, but large enough for the big branches. great for trimming light branches up to 1/4 inch or smaller. no enough power for anything thicker

During first use cutting small fallen limbs product starting smoking and burnt electrical connections. Ryobi provided a list a locations providing warranty service for outdoor products. I contacted all locations and they advised that they only worked on gas products. I shipped it to a repair facility in St Louis and they rejected the warranty claim. The excuse was it was operated with the tension too tight. This was the first use - tension was set by Ryobi at the factory. I checked it before use and it turned without binding - which according to the manual is the correct tension. Even if this were true, a product with this advertised power should not be so fragile as to catch fire if the tension is not correct.

This small saw cuts very well. I'm using it to re-cut a lot of the pre-split or oddly shaped wood ordered for my small wood stove. Using with a 100ft, #16 ext cord. With an easy hand it will make it though anything I have. It leaks oil badly regardless of the position it's stored in. I kept it in a cardboard box on top of a few rags because of the warnings of previous reviewers. They were correct. There is a lot of initial chain stretch but it seems to have stabilized after three cutting sessions. After looking at the options at Home depot, I think they have a chain that will fit this saw but I haven't purchased it yet.
