I purchased this mower at the beginning of summer, 2008, after reading a lot of reviews all around. On the whole, my experience has been very positive. This mower is easy to push---it's just as easy as any other push mower I've ever used. It's low maintenance. You don't have to mess with gas and oil. It isn't noisy, it isn't generating a ton of noxious emissions, it isn't throwing up dust (for those of us who suffer from allergies, this is a big deal). Set up was a snap. Using it is simple. The only drawback is that this mower doesn't handle tall weeds (>6") very well at all. I had to go through with a weedwacker to get those. Also, it's tough to get right up next to a curb. Honestly it was really annoying for me to sharpen the blades on my mower. I thought it'd be straight forward but apparently I'm pretty retarded when it comes to this mower and not making a mess. =P

I wanted to collect some of my clippings from the reel mower to use as mulch. I had allowed the grass to sit on the lawn. I had been cutting it twice to eliminate missed spots and break down some bigger clippings. This bag doesn't catch everything. You also need to pull back the load and reposition the clippings from the predominate left side every so often. I didn't expect much from this attachment, but it serves my purpose to gather a fair amount of clippings.

We have Empire Zoysia and we installed 29 pallets around a year ago (11,600sq). We have been treating the grass correctly, but we have been mowing the grass with a self-propelled rotary mower. It looks good when its cut, but it does make the lawn look like yellowish color for a couple of days, because it breaks/rips the leaf, leaving it vulnerable for diseases. We heard from other people to use a reel mower that its very good for zoysia. We purchased the American Lawn Mower about 1 month ago, and let me tell you, we LOVE IT. This is the perfect mower for a very small lawn. It works best on "short-ish" lawns. Longer grass is difficult to cut.

This mower is Beefy, it's got some good weight to it, not flimsly at all. A concern of mine when I ordered was that it would turn out to be a cheap plastic, this thing is all steel baby. Watch out for those blades, they will tear your arm off. Since I started using it my lawn has been growing at a phenomenal rate, it's basically overgrown in a weeks time. The mower makes no noise so I can cut the grass as early as I want. After the first mow it was so awesome I wanted to keep going and mow my neighbors lawn, but you don't mow another mans lawn!! It is still relatively new and sharp so I cannot comment on blades dulling or resharpening. Cleaning the mower of shredded grass is easier and safer with a leaf blower. Assembly was easy. After two weeks of hunting the internet for reviews, finally decided on this Sunlawn. Shipped fast, and free. Pulled the machine out of the box, screwed together the sturdy handles, set it for 2 inches, and went at a nasty, wet, lumpy, scruffy, overgrown corner of the yard that had been uncut since the gas mower died. This baby chewed through the mess like a backseat full of ChubChubbs. Scratchy old stems? Gone. Thick, soppy grass? Pfft -- like a bayonet through a birthday cake. Instead of leaving wads of wet grass to rake up, the Sunlawn neatly scattered tiny chopped mulch over the surface. I have a small bermuda lawn in Arizona, about 900 square ft, so I thought a cheap reel mower would be the best choice. I couldn't have been more wrong. When this mower didn't skip over the top of my lawn, cutting nothing, it would bog down with the blades locking up on the thick bermuda grass. The problem seems to be both the light weight of the mower not letting it push down into thick grass, and the roller bar on the back of the mower. The roller bar is what adjusts the cutting height of this mower and it would constantly ride up on the grass resulting in the mower just skimming over the top of the grass. I eventually gave up and just bought an electric mower.

I bought my mower at a garage sale for $12.00 and I love it. It's perfect for my small townhouse front and back yard. Even though it doesn't get closer than a couple of inches to the house or the fence, it's still close enough to not warrant the purchase of a gas powered weed eater. I just use some hand clippers. My mower was fairly dull when I bought it and had been sharpened incorrectly. I purchased the sharpening kit from Amazon, and now it cuts like a dream. Best of all, no noise or enviromental pollution.
