I have a 15 year old Stanley opener with tiny switches and a 5 year old Genie electronic system and they are both programmed with this opener. A built-in opener sold by the auto dealers can cost over $400. Multiply that by the number of vehicles you put it in and it can get stupid expensive. This was less than $30. The instructions tell you how to program each button based on lists of names of different systems. It took some time to figure out which settings to use because my older system didn't work with the suggested programming and I had to experiment. I did get frustrated at the beginning. First: this product is intended for Security+ garage door openers made before 2005. If you have a Security+ opener with a grey antenna wire and/or an red/orange "learn" button on the back, you should be all set. Hopefully, that helps out anyone deciding which model they need. My opener was made in '97 and has the orange button, and it took me longer to read the instructions than it took to actually program this to work with my opener. You hit the button, enter the code you want, and hold down the Enter button for a few seconds. That's it. Mounting it was a breeze. You put a screw in where you want to hang the keypad, slide the keypad on the screw, and then put in a second screw where the battery goes (just under the pad) to keep it secure. I purchased this keyless garage door opener at Menards, and worked all morning trying to program it. But it did not work. I have tried everyway possible, and checked with the manufacturer's recorded instructions, and have almost memorized the procedures. But it still did not work. The instructional video at the maker's website doesn't work. It's been very frustrating, and I finally gave up and returned it to the store. Don't buy it if you want it to work with Genie door opener as promised by this product.

I bought this garage door opener to replace a broken Genie H2000C 1/2 HP opener that was present when I purchased my house. The chamberlain 3/4 hp opener came with all necessary parts for an easy replacement of my existing garage door opener. Being someone who is technically and mechanically savvy, I was not worried about installing the opener. The instructions were clear and concise and the install went off without a hitch. I would put the difficulty of installing this unit at a 2/5, which means that I think just about anyone who has a simple understanding of how to use hand tools could accomplish this task. It's been installed for about 3-4 weeks now and I haven't had a single issue so far. It is a very quiet unit compared to the one in our other garage door.
