The light is just right for all my rooms. They do last a long and save money. I have been using the Fluorescents for a long time and this is my first on-line order for light bulbs. Of course some of them came broken. All four corner light bulbs were broken. I didn't tell Amazon.com or expect a replacement. Good value even with 4 broken. I recomment these to every one.

they burb out quickly at least when used in an upside down lamp, 3 burned out so far sylvanias keep going

I love CFL technology and these are the best bulbs I have seen. I have been replacing incandescent bulbs as they burn out with cfl bulbs. I just installed these bulbs yesterday and I can already tell an improvement as compared to cfls purchased a couple of years ago. In one room I have double lighting fixtures. There was such a difference in light power and color (these are very white) that I had to remove the old cfl and replace so it would be balanced. The warm up time on these is also very improved. In previous models there was a little delay between flipping the switch and the light coming on. Not so in this model, I would venture to say that it could compete with incandescents in warm up time. Works perfectly, saves money, is smaller than higher watt bulbs, and Amazon ordering and service is second to none. Would definitely order again.

Forget those silly deep purple incandescent bulbs, these are real black light that fit into normal light bulb sockets. One word of warning, most glass and plastic covers block the UV but still allow the visible purple light through. It is best to use these bulbs bare.

I ordered these 23-watt CFLs to replace 100-watt bulbs in a few locations at home. I had read that "cool white" fluorescents were better for reading. The bulbs work just fine. If you decide to use cool white CFLs, though, be prepared to have your living space lit up with the sort of bluish-white glow you'd see in a doctor's office or dentist's office. In fact, in the living room, we actually decided to replace the cool whites with soft whites so that we had the slightly yellowish glow we've all become used to in living spaces. It was just too odd--almost eerie--having that antiseptic white glow. We ended up putting the cool whites in light fixtures that were covered by yellowish covers or globes. You can find comparable 13 watt CF bulbs at Home Depot for $4.88 / 4 pack. The Home Depot bulbs have a longer warranty. I bought both these bulbs and the Home Depot bulbs and can not tell a bit of difference in color, ramp-up time, etc. Save your money -- which you are probably aiming to do by shopping for items like this anyway.

I have replaced about a dozen bulbs in and around my house with these and their 100w-equivalent brethren. In the fixtures where they're appropriate, they beat the incandescents hands-down, as long as they last as long as they're supposed to, which remains to be seen. With these bulbs there are a few caveats, and here's where my input will hopefully help prospective customers: 1- Do NOT use these bulbs, or any CFL bulbs, where they will either be switched on-and-off frequently or left on for less than 15mins or so. The long life of these bulbs presumes that they are not flicked on-and-off every time they're used...
