I bought this item after reading several chat room discussions about removing exhaust manifold studs that have broken off in the cylinder head. I'm not sure if it was the fact that the bits were left handed (have to run the drill in reverse) or that they were cobalt coated, or what it was, but, the bit worked great and the extractor backed the stud out with no problem. A couple of notes: 1. I heated the stud with a propane torch and immediately pressed an ordinary household candle to the stud. This causes the melted wax to be sucked into the threads and lubricate them. 2. I did not run the drill at full speed. Patience is a must. 3. I dipped the bit in motor oil for cooling several times during the drilling. This also allows the metal shavings to be pulled out of the hole you are drilling.

These are nice. Note that the photo is from the "old style" box (the new style box is three rows of extractors). Near as I can tell, these are identical to the set sold by Snap-On for about $100. The flutes are sharp (which is good to get a good grip without expanding the hole). I did a quick test and a gentle tap with the end of a screwdriver was all that was needed to get these to "grab". Now, no extractor can remove a bolt that's so corroded that the head shears off when you try to turn it, but for situations where the bolt head "died" or broke off because you turned it too far, or for pipe nipples and other tubes that have no exterior wrenching surface, these are the perfect tool. Love it, you can also use it to remove bolts with the head broke off. When a larger version is out there, I buy it in a heart beat.

One of the best investments I've ever made. Well worth the money spent in lieu of trying to purchase taps and dies separately which would cost a small fortune. The blow molded case is very and durable.
