This is a great chainsaw. I spent some time researching the right one to get and Consumer reports was right on with this one. It works great, very powerful. I have used it to chop through 10" branches and nothing has even given it a hiccup yet. Cuts through trees like butter! It's great if you don't need a highly portable saw. You are limited only by your extension cord.

Got it for my husband for Christmas last year. He has had numerous chain saws over the last 25 years. This is is his favorite. He was amazed at ease of cut. His comment is in the title "This thing cuts like the tree is butter". And yes, he went and cut down stuff that did not need it just because the saw is so sweet.

I purchased this saw for a 'yard' tool on my acreage, to break tree trunks and limbs down to firewood length. Delivery was prompt, the price was right, and my first impressions of the Poulan 3 1/2 hp are very favorable. The bar and chain are the same size and type as my old Homelite saw, and the weight is similar. I'm using a 25' #14ga. extension cord at present, with no sign of excessive heat in the cord. This is my first a.c. electric saw, and I'm very impressed with the torque, cutting ability, and overall utility of this unit. I'd buy it again, and although I nearly purchased the larger four hp. version, I am very satisfied with this saw. I have 25 OAK trees that have broken limbs from last storm. The reach is high enough to get to most limbs. Little motor starts easily. Very satisfied all around. The price was very good compared to the high priced models.Delivery was very swift and easy. warning in instruction manual, for occassional use only, very interesting.

A month ago my 10 year old 18" Poulan "Wild Thing" developed a problem where one of the chain bar bolts became loose in the housing - it was still usable by fooling around with extra nuts but I concluded it was time to relegate it to backup. So I sprung for an 18" Poulan Pro. It corrects the only things that were trouble with the old one by having a finger tighten bar bolt and a thumbscrew chain tightener that can be used in the field with no tools. It starts easy and the anti-vibration works as advertised. If it gives anywhere close to the service of my last Poulan I will be delighted. I use it for cutting brush and firewood.

I have had this saw for 3 years now and it has been a workhorse. Starting this saw always starts by the 3rd pull when I set it to full choke and lock the throttle on. Recently took down a 30" cherry tree and it had no problems except that i had to frequently adjust the chain and keep it sharp.

I've owned a Wild Thing since either '02 or '03. It's been through dozens of cords of wood in that time. I've never had any trouble with it. It always starts right up. I don't step on it to start it though. I pull the choke to full, push the primer about 3 times, hold the saw in my right hand and yank the cord with my left hand. If it doesn't start on that pull, I push the choke back in and pull again, it usually starts then. I've not had trouble with the chain constantly getting loose that I can recall. I just cut two cords of firewood with it the end of this summer and I just used it to cut some railroad ties today. It's got good power for a consumer saw, and will cut fairly quickly with a good sharp chain. I think mine may be ready for a new clutch, it seems to be slipping more easily than it used to. Price ... The Poulan 1630 is an absolutely bare-bones chainsaw. This tool has no frills or extra features. It is just a simple little chainsaw. At the time of this posting, the Amazon product description claimed the Poulan 1630 chainsaw has an auto-oiling system. This is not true. The Poulan 1630's chain must be oiled after every ten seconds of use by holding down the oil cap button for three seconds. This is an inconvenience that distracts the chainsaw operator. I think we all agree that distractions should be kept to a minimum when using a chainsaw. The designers of the Poulan 1630 must have spent very little time on ergonomics. The chainsaw's left-hand grip is very small and may cause hand cramping after several minutes of continual use. The safety switch is awkwardly located, forcing the right thumb ... Read More
