I have this hammer and the 28oz milled face model that I carry everywhere with me. I use the smooth faced hammer for finish work and the milled face for framing. I love the balance and length of the handles. These are tough hammers, more than once when too lazy to get the right tool I have used the claws to break up concrete. I have put an 8' length of pipe on these and used them to pry stuff apart. Try that with a fiberglass or wood handle! I have yet to wear out the rubber grips and my oldest Estwing has been with me 15 years.

Great tool for the logger. I fasten this axe to my harness along with my wedge pouch, logger's tape, file and saw wrench. With this axe I can wedge very large trees over without having to carry around a bulky sledge or larger axe. It is also very handy for trimming small limbs off the felled trees as I'm measuring the tree for logs. It is superbly built, very strong and handles all the abuse I give without bending, breaking or falling apart.

I love this hammer if I could give it 10 stars I would. I install windows for a living and use a hammer a lot. I was getting sick of my stanley fiberglass standard 16oz curved claw hammer, i call it pinger. The stanley pings really loudly and it is very anoying. Anyway the Estwing hits a lot harder and has better comfort. Even though the Stanley has a "form fitting handle" that gives me a blisted after ten minutes. Estwing is the way to go. I may suggest that you get the 22oz because it is the same size, cheaper and unless you frame for a living you wont need the little extra power the 28 oz has,. Also the 28oz hurts your forarm a l;ittle quicker than the 22oz.

As expected from an Estwing product, this axe performs very well and is a well-balanced striking instrument. I used it to fell a 12" diameter tree with no problem - actually quite enjoyable. The only drawback is that when you strike very hard dead wood, it does vibrate some (not a problem with live wood). I recommend the Fiskars sharpener for $10 - got the blade very sharp with this tool. Also consider the Fiskars Pro Chopping axe which got great reviews. FYI, supposedly the world's finest axes are from Gransfors Bruks in Sweden.

For my needs this hammer is the correct length and weight. the leather grip does not slip in my hand even when I sweat. I will be recommending this hammer and I will be purchasing more as needed.
