This is the least expensive 8" carbide stacked dado that I could find. I bought mine at a big-box store about a year ago. It replaced a 6" steel stacked set that I bought a few years back. It was a big step up and, for a while I was satisfied with it despite the not-quite-flat bottom it left. Last week I needed to rabbet some pine molding. I didn't have a close look at the dado while I installed it on the arbor. Upon starting the cut, the workpiece vibrated violently as it passed into the dado. I stopped and examined the dado and discovered that the outboard blades were missing a total of six teeth. I checked the reviews before I bought this blade and many said how easy it cuts and how quiet. I agree. I've been ripping 4/4 quarter-sawn red oak on my Ryobi table saw and it slices through easily. Very clean cutting, only minimal sanding needed.

Freud makes the best saw blades and this is no exception. Really thin kerf but still strong to take any abuse you might throw at it.

I was let down by these jointer knives for two reasons: 1) There is a healthy burr on them which required honing, 2) worse yet the blades have a bow in them, which then require firm pressure to the honing plate to knock down the burr. Otherwise only the ends of the blade back would get cleaned up. In fact there's enough of a burr that the bevel-edge will require honing as well. Due to the bow in the blades, I'm not sure if my Veritas honing jig will straighten them out to clean up the bevel. If I wanted to screw around with tuning up knives, why would I have bought new ones? Hope you have better luck.

I bought this blade set to give me a perfectly square (flat) miter for a spline key. I'm building interior shutters for my windows - lower half of the window, hammered glass shutters (to let light in while providing privacy). My frame for the shutter is 2.25" oak with a channel for the glass and using 45 degree miter cuts on the corners. A very weak joint for this. I needed to strengthen the joints with the spline key, but finding a blade that cut square was impossible. All of the teeth cut angles, and this leaves a "V" shaped base on the cut. Also, I needed 1/4" for the cut, not 1/8 which a normal blade would provide. I am in the process of removing the contractor installed shelving in my wife's laundry room, and I am replacing them with a whole bunch of base cabinets and wall cabinets that I am building. These cabinets will occupy the entire length of two adjacent walls. The cabinet boxes are built out of 3 / 4 inch Oak laminate plywood. The cabinet side panels and back panels all have a 3 / 4 inch wide and 3 / 8 inch deep dado to receive the cabinet bottom and a 3 / 4 inch wide and 3 / 8 inch deep rabbit to receive the cabinet back. I made the dados and the rabbits with a brand new, right out of the box Freud SD508 Super Dado Set. The resulting cuts were spectacular. I was more than pleased. Great dado set - very high quality, flat-bottom dados. It does not fit the Jet Xacta Saw Deluxe tablesaw, however. While the tablesaw's dust shroud does have a semi-circular cutout, it is not big enough to accommodate the dado set's dial. If possible, you should check for fit on any saw with such a shroud before buying.

This blade does give a nice smooth cut. But run this experiment yourself. Take any sharp blade. Rip a board very slowly. You'll probably get the same result: a nice smooth cut. In fact if you rip with this blade, the blade itself will not allow the board to be moved through at a fast pace. Try it! It's a great blade but don't expect a lot more than what you have already.
