Bought this to prep 20 year old cedar siding for repainting. It had not been painted for at least 7 years. The PaintEater made quick work of what could have been quite a scraping project. I did go thru 2 discs in the process. But for the square footage I covered, that was not excessive. Use the disc's edge when the disc is new (and thickest) to scrape the lower edges of the siding. It is noisy and produces a lot of dust. It does take some practice to get the best feathered edges. If the unit begins to wobble as you strip/sand, resist the temptation to press harder. Instead, ease off the wall surface and then press down. That seems to regain control faster.

I install cabinets and countertops and have to caulk in the c-tops. Now I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the greatest caulker, so I bought this at home depot. Well I thought it was great for about a week until the rubber started falling apart and got holes in it. It's way to much money for what it is, your better off buying a cheaper product. Don't waist your money if you plan on needing something like this on a daily basis.

Worked well to strip the paint on a small (8'x6') porch and steps. Worked much better than a heat gun. The radiant heater keeps the heat concentrated on a small area making it easy to scrape off the paint.

I've used these little scrapers everywhere -- home, garage, and office. You might not think such a small handle offers much improvement over a bare blade, but it provides significantly more control and leverage. The blade does not retract, but you can store the scraper by reversing the blade so the sharp edge is inside the handle. Or, if you're lazy like me, you can also wedge the blade between two flat surfaces such as the front & bottom of a drawer.

I was going through a lot of this and couldn't find it at the local HW store. Finally I bought a few boxes online and have been thrilled with the difference. I use 800, 1200, 1500, and 2000 before doing a final polish. 800 does the bulk of the lifting to get a guitar looking glass smooth.

We bought SOY-GEL to remove paint from a brick fireplace and from wood trim in an 85 yr old house with many layers of paint on everything. The gel goes on a bit messy, so be sure to use drop-cloth under vertical surfaces. Best to apply a thick coat with a paintbrush and wait a few hours. Newer latex paints will bubble and peel right up, Older oil-cased or lead paints will come up too, but with a little more waiting. To get 10+ layers of paint off of our brick fireplace, it took two full coats and a few touch-up spots, but now we have a beautiful fireplace appropriate to the old house, rather than a hideously painted mistake. I've used methylene chloride strippers in the past, and they work comparably to the soy-gel (if the MC percentage is high enough), but are much more dangerous to work with. ... Read More

For those who want a long review, look elsewhere. Simple, does what it is supposed to do and unlike the cheap ones is constant in it's delivery. Suggest you make sure you get the long glue sticks, they work better so you don't have to keep putting in more sicks half way through a job.
