Living in southern California, I've found no end of usefulness to these binoculars. I've used them to scout waves at the beach, figure out which skiing run is less crowded, looking for a clear rock face to climb, hunting out a good camping spot in the desert, or just looking for a better view of a baseball game.
I used to borrow a friend's pair all the time until eventually I broke down and bought one of my own. It's a great product that hasn't let me down yet, and has stood up to endless abuse (kicked through the sand, dropped in the water and worse).
This are perfect binoculars for my needs. I keep them in my camper. Being water proof and having the rubber coating protects them from the elements and rough use when I am out in the woods. I highly recommend these to anyone.
Bought these binoculars to be able to get a better look at the blimps, hot air balloons, and birds from my home, but also needed something to get a better view of the far end zone at Giant's Stadium. Nothing elaborate about these binoculars, but perfect for my needs.
I only paid $10 dollars (after promotional discounts) for the kit, so I can't complain. But for the people about to pay full price, I write this review.
The binoculars are worth about $25, because they are not multicoated and they have very noticeable blurriness around the edges of the view field. I have a pair of Bushnell $60 binoculars that work very well at night and put the Celestron set to shame.
The metal, 5-LED, red flashlight is worth around $5 dollars and functions very well.
The green pointer works well for about the first 15 minutes of use, then the batteries need to be changed, because the beam gets weak. While the batteries are fairly fresh, the pointer works about as well as a 5mw green laser can. In order to see the laser beam stretch into ... Read More
I already own Nikon Action 8 x 40 Binoculars that work really well and are in the same price range as these Travelite binoculars. BUT! The Action 8 x 40's are way too big and way too heavy and I found myself not carrying them outside the house much. I needed a smaller, lighter pair to travel with that could fit in my pockets. So I went to several different stores and tried a lot of different smaller lower weight binoculars some costing almost $1,000.
But I kept coming back to these Nikon Travelite's and so went home and ordered them from Amazon.com for the best price and no taxes.

Here's what I love about these binoculars:
I love the way they fit in my hands like a natural extension of my body.

Excellent binoculars!! Everyone that bird-watches also wildflower-watches, mushroom-watches, butterfly-watches, bug-watches, etc., etc while they are out walking around. These binocs allow you to do all these seamlessly. The close focal range is amazing, but they still have a wide-enough feild-of-view at a distance so you can find birds easily. Great quality optics. Very lightweight also, very comfortable on a long hike.
The actual dimnetions of this product are 7" long and 7" wide ( at the end of the product- the part that we hold to our eyes is not quite as wide and fit to the eyes.
These are VERY strong binoculars, they are 16x the magnification, the 50 ( the other #) is simply the size of the front lens.. its 50 mm in diameter ( wide)... they are very strong and you can see things very far away. If you need a pair for a concert or a football game or something, then I believe these would be way to powerful and large. ( also I read somewhere, and I think its true that anything over 10x the magnification ( these are 16x) that you should use a tripod, since its too hard to see properly, since it needs to be compltely still.
We bought these binoculars for a trip to Alaska. They are fairly compact and lightweight, which made them perfect for viewing wildlife and scenery while backpacking. My only complaint is that we lost one of the objective lens caps, and it has been pretty much impossible to replace it. Nikon says that part has been backordered for 7 months, and I can't find any dealers who sell it. It seems crazy, especially after reading the other reviewer's comment about how easy it is to lose the cap.... we must not be the only ones with this problem.
My husband loves these binos. He has owned other Bushnell wides but finds these even better than his old ones. Loves to watch football games with these, can see all 22 players on the field at once. Uses them also for spotting animals in the mountains.
