Yaktrax's are unbeatable. They give the greatest traction in all icy conditions. I run a high mountain camp and have tried many ice traction devises. In icy conditions, CAUTION, is always the most important factor, no matter what the devise. In walking indoors all devises can be hazardous, it depends on the care you use while walking. My staff and I have used Yaktrax's for years. For inside staff, regular Yaktrax's are the best. They put them on to walk from their cabin or car to the office and pop them off once inside. For my outside staff, the Yaktrax Pro's can't be beat. They are rugged and don't ware out. The strap over the front of the boot keeps them in place in most situations. I saw this item on Amazon when looking at sleds and was very skeptical -- who needs a snowball maker after all? However, good friends bought a couple (3) which they left outside the house on the snow. Inevitably, the kids picked them up and figured out how to pack the perfect snowball by tapping the handle on the ground or against a tree. Next thing you know, perfectly spherical, ideally-sized snowballs were flying everywhere! Its easy to bang out a dozen balls in seconds, or for one guy to feed another with an endless supply. They pack just about any kind of snow, too. I was amazed!! Great price-to-fun ratio here.

Walks great, goes anywhere, but the clasps are made of plastic and weak. They can be replaced with metal ones. The frame has been sound.

The original Spiky didn't have spikes in the back, so it was possible to be wearing it and still slip and fall if you pushed off from the heel. Spiky Plus, with heel spikes, is great. I have osteoporosis and must avoid falling on ice and slush, and I have used Spiky Plus for some years now with safety. To be even safer, walk flat-footed on your Spiky Pluses! The newer kind of traction aids, with the small steel rings strung along wires, is no good at all for black ice or smooth ice - the rings just skid on it - and if you wear that kind inside just to stop in a store for a minute you can slip on the floor. No one has beaten Spiky yet.
