This rack is very sturdy and fits my Toyota Tacoma perfectly. I highly suggest you have a manufacturer install it properly (REI did mine for about $200, but it was worth not having the hassle). Also the bars are easily taken off with the hex wrench during non-winter seasons, so UV rays don't deteriorate the rubber. It is noisy in the wind, so that takes some getting used to. This ski rack also comes in a 2-pair model. Extra keys are included. Yakima and Thule have great reputations for racks.

2.Yakima Fat Cat from: Yakima
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Sporting Goods : Yakima Fat Cat

We needed a rack that was wide enough for 4 snowboards. This carrier is longer than the average 4 board carrier leaving more room between the boards so that they don't cut up the other board's high backs.

hinges on this rack are spring loaded to self adjust to the thickness of the items being carried. The rack is a lot quieter than our old one a Yakima promo rack.

3.Thule 91725 Flat Top Ski Carrier from: Thule

Installed this on a Jeep Grand Cherokee factory rack. Not enough clearance between the roof and ski bindings - had to take apart skis and lay them flat. Therefore could barely fit 2 skis + 1 snowboard. Look for a height adjustable or bigger rack such as the Yakima Fat Cat if you're carrying more than 3 pair of skis.

Much better than expected. I've only had this on my Toyota 4runner for a few weeks. Does not feel very heavy, nor does it affect my fuel/mileage so far. Easy to assemble. Also very easy to take on and off any standard crossbar.
The picture is actually inaccurate. Go to the officieal Sportrack website and type in ABS 1300 Ski model A26395. Or just type in the model number. You will see the actual picture is a much longer box. The typical Yakima or Thule Box that is similar sized will usually cost you about $350 to $500, you can buy the exact same one for only $200 on Amazon, under a mistaken picture. I am surprised they are selling this box at this price. I think it might be the price of the picture, which is a smaller dimension roof cargo box. The smaller box would not have ... Read More

I just fitted this to my 998xt rack. It fits fairly well, and feels pretty secure. It's well made, and comes with all the accessories you'll need.

The downside is that it's impossible to get my shaped skis (Rossi Bandit B3s) into the rack the way they suggest (back to back). They do fit, but less securely, as individual skis. This reduces the capacity to 3 pairs of skis, and not 6.

Also the height of the rack, even with my relatively short skis, is insane - the tops of the skis stand a good 2 feet above the roofline of my SUV.

To be honest.... I wish I'd bought a roof rack, and just stuck with the Thule rack for my bike.

Rack installs in minutes, little tools needed. Straps are adjustable, but worried about how well it will work in mid-winter when I am tired from riding and cold ...ready to go home. Would probably have bought the flat rack for ski and snowboard if I hadn't got this rack at such a discount in a store.
