I bought this as a backup to my Sunto. This is not your cheap discount sports store lensatic compass. The material quality is on par with products in the $100 range. There is no play in the hinge parts, and lens isn't just a cheap piece of plastic like I am used to seeing in other cheap compasses. This is a killer deal!

What can you say, a good basic compass. Seems to be made pretty well and it points north! Tally-Ho!

It's a very good compass. It have a strong aluminum cover. The magnifier glass looks very good. It find the direction quickly. Fits very well in my pocket for carrying.

I just returned from spending two plus weeks in the rain forest in coastal British Columbia. This watch worked perfectly. It was critical to have the thermometer altimeter and the barometer. I was able to use topographical maps and the watch to know where I was on the mountain. I was also able to leave the rock face when the barometer predicted incoming rain. No, it's not a Cammenga. For <$11 no one should expect the same quality. If you hold it level, you will get an accurate enough reading to head you in the direction you want--but you'd better hold it level....and wait a minute for it to settle. I've got an old better quality Brunton that I would trust with my life--this one I would not. In no way would I use this with a topo map in big woods. Out of the box, it points about 10 degrees E of mag N compared to the older Brunton and a high priced GPS at speed(which agree). I use it in the deer woods to get a fairly accurate reading on wind direction and stand placement. It fits in the smallest pocket on my belt pack which is why I bought it. Recently bought this altimeter. It's very easy and simple to use, don't have to worry about batteries. Tested resently on mt.Washington, NH. Indicates elevation with accuracy... Plannig to use it on our next trip to much higher elevation. Barometer is usefull too-specially if you stay on mountain for a few days. I would recommend this product. Price is nice as well... compare to digital ones...

WOW!!! When I first saw this I was looking for several different tools, not an all in one. This Compass fulfilled all my requirements and I didn't even realize that it would when I bought it. I work on Satellite communications systems and aligning antennae is part of my daily taskings. This compass has a movable bezil ring which makes finding a bearing incredibly simple. It works well in the northern hemisphere. I have not had the opertunity to use it in the southern as of yet. The Clinometer makes it quite simple to get elevation angles nearly perfect. I have also done some hiking with it and I have not become lost as of yet. The literature that comes with the compass is easy to understand.

The first time I used it the little magnifying lens in the eyepiece popped out without even touching it! Luckily I found it and managed to superglue it back into place. Also, the compass seems very slow to respond to positional changes, as if over dampened or under magnetized. Although it feels very sturdy with the nice metal case, I have a plastic compass that works better. This is more of a showpiece than something I would want to be relying on when lost in the woods.

It's a basic compass that has everything that's needed for basic/casual orienteering. It's easy to read, and the rounded base makes it easier to hold in-hand for those quick bearing checks. I gave one of these as a gift to a friend who them took it along on a Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness trip. It served him just fine, and has proved durable. It is a little more compact, so it fits better in my wast pack, or in my cargo pants side pocket.

The watch itself is nice enough; not quite as easy to use as a similar Casio Pathfinder, but okay. My big gripe was with the band. There is nothing 'military' about the quality. After less than a year of VERY light use, the band broke and at the time of writing Suunto does not sell an identical replacement strap. The only alternative is a cheap- and generic-looking strap, which ends ends up taking a lot away from the original look of the watch. The multiple Casio's I've owned have, at worst, only needed a new band every 1-2 years with heavy use (diving, surfing, desert use, etc). Even if an identical strap was available, I would not trust it to keep the watch on my wrist. Overall: Buy a Casio if you want the same features; they are generally cheaper, more durable, and more user-friendly.
