I got these shoes a day before the first snow in illinois. They are definitely worth the $45 i paid for them. They are the most comfortable hiking boot i tried on, even more comfortable than the more expensive models from competitors. More than that, these guys REALLY are waterproof. I stepped in a huge ice covered puddle and submerged them up to the ankle and my foot was completely dry. They seemed to be pretty true to size as well. Overall, a great product! The only complaint i have is that they could be a bit warmer.

I'm a big Keen fan. I bought a pair of the Targhee II mids after being impressed with the comfort of the Austins. I too find the wider construction of the boot to be very comfortable. I've not experienced the separation problems described by some of the previous posters, but I've only used the boots for about 4 months. I personally find them to be outstanding. I really like their rigidity: stiff enough for hard use, but still flexible enough for daily wear if one desires. I would describe them as water-resistant as opposed to water-proof.

I walk through a pair of hiking shoes every 6 months or sooner. Where i live there are not many paved roads, mostly gravel and forest. Hard to find a place that has good shoes (these were kinda affordable) within my price range being retired. Hope there are more when i return. I bought 2 pair this time. Stephen

Love these shoes, good price. My always cold feet are cozy and warm with a thick pair of wool socks and these for car travel, short walks, or sitting around the office or house. BUT, as others have noted, they tend to run short (heel to toe) and I had to return them for one size larger than I would ordinarily wear for regular street shoes. I also bought three other Sorel boot products: slippers, rain boots, tall snow boots. All one size larger required, all great. I especially like the pull-on feature. No lost, broken, wet, frozen, tangled laces.

After some bad experiences with other woman's boots which claimed to be waterproof. . I think some companies think women don't actually go outdoors .. I tried these boots. They work. They feel loose when you try them on so the boot lore of yesteryear of having a perfect fit doesn't apply here as they are so comfortable there was no break in period, although I thought they were too loose in the heel and would cause blisters . . not so, once I got used to the fit they became my main shoe. With a pair of gaiters these boots stand up to search and rescue work, snow and mountain biking in wet vegetation, tracking off trail and spending a whole day in a boat with sloshing water in the bottom . . and now I know how long they last as my pair failed this week and are no longer waterproof after one and one ... You can't be breaking your ankle out there on the open trail. These shoes aren't as heavy as they look and are super durable. They have lasted me a long time now and I expect them to last a lot longer. I'm very satisfied with what I got and couldn't have asked for more when shopping for hiking shoes. I'd recommend this defiantly for all you hikers out there (yes I know they're men's shoes and I'm a girl, but so what). You can't go climb a mountain with any ordinary shoe, really this is a great buy and its very protective of your feet. You barely feel all the rocks underfoot.
