I have fond memories of my family members using cast iron pans. Once I grew up I forgot about such things and got caught up in all the other neat pots and pans. Now I am going back to my roots and buying lodge cast iron. I have thrown most of my other pans, especially those with teflon coating. This pan has been used just about every day for two weeks (since I received it) and it is now my favorite. I love it and I love Amazon!

I hated my mother's cast iron skillet, it was so big and heavy, but she had to feed a family of nine. Now I am getting reaquainted with cast iron, and wish I hadn't stayed away so long. The 8" is perfect for me, not so much heavy, as solid. Heats pretty quick, clean up and care is simple. I have left teflon on the burner before and am not surprized that the horrid smell is also toxic. I'd rather have the added iron in my diet instead of teflon or alluminum. It's easy to see why Lodge has stood the test of time, quality and affordability together are hard to find! Quick shipping too! Two forks up!

We were introduced to camp dutch oven cooking a few months ago and have since re-discovered the fun of cast iron cooking. The outdoor recipes are not only fun, but easy to prepare in the dutch oven and the idea of cooking on the riverbank or in the backyard is great. Lots of plans for future outtings with out new camp dutch oven. The purchase of a lid lifter and trivet are not mandatory, but highly suggested. (The ashes in our first batch of panhandler spaghetti proved that!) We have searched and found a few key pieces of cast iron to use indoors now, too!

Flimsy like a coke can. Bends in your pack. To small to cook the 2 cups of water required for most freeze-dried nasty dinners. Seven bucks down the drain, what was I thinking? I bet it would melt on a higher BTU stove, or with 3 matches lit at the same time. I will recycle this kit when I return my coke cans.

Being from the south, I have used iron skillets for more than 50 years. I presently have five. The seven quart Dutch oven is well seasoned and ready to go. I expected no less from the makers, fellow Tennesseans from little old South Pittsburg. After another couple of years of use it will be even more perfect. Bill

The novelty of this product is just about its only attribute. It is fun for about 5 minutes. The ball leaked from the get go so we could not roll it on the floor. It is extremely heavy, and shaking it for 15 minutes, followed by another 10-15 is a very long time, especially for kids! You need A LOT of ice and have to keep refilling the ice portion. The ice cream never got really firm, it is more like a milk shake. Tasted great, though. Plus it is very difficult to clean the outside due to its design. I would pass on this product.
