C# .NET is an easy transition for either a C++ or Java programmer. After crashing and burning on every Visual Basic Project I've ever worked on, this is a refreshing change. Its fast and easy - I only wish that it were an open standard. The code I've written in it and used as pseudo-code ported back to linux with only a few changes and wrappers.

The new MSDN pricing makes this out of reach for most individuals, however it isnt a sbscription designed for indivuals any longer. The package provides you everything the Old Unviersal Edition provides for, in addition it provides you with the entire TFS suite, which sadly is limited to 5 concurrent users. So unless you do need the VSTS in order to hone your skills, I for one dont see too many people shelling out 10K for this sadly.

FileMaker Pro 7 (and it's new version 8) have one leg up on Microsoft Access: the are cross-platform. You can use FileMaker on Macs and PCs. Microsoft doesn't make an Access for Mac, either stand-alone or bundled with Office. If you don't know how to use Access, if you don't know too much about relational database management systems, FileMaker is probably for you. It's much easier to use than Access. But if you have invested the time to learn Access enough to do the basics - create tables, complex queries, and forms, and to produce useful reports - stick with Access. Switching to FileMaker means learning a whole new system, and once you do, you will not be any more productive than you already are.

The cost of the processor license MSRP is $20,000.00 and it not only covers the processor, but also the computer the processor is in. You need one for each processor in the computer, and instead of using server license's, processor license's give you unlimited User and Device CAL's I have a Quad Xeon with 4 processor license's and I can connect an unlimmited number of user's or devices http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/faq.mspx It's the way to go !

Visual Basic.NET Standard is the best buy for the money. For all the people that think this version is crippled. It's not, you just have to do a little more work with it. This is not a trial version, the people that made that complaint are either too lazy to learn to code and are dependant on wizards ( scary ) or just lazy. You can do alot with this package and for the money like I said before this is an excellent buy. As Far as not being able to compile dll's yes you can if you write your own project wizard, like I did :) Things VB.NET Standard CAN DO Windows Apps Web Apps Console Apps Web Services AND Yes Class Libraries if you know what you are doing.
