IRS was calling my parents for me NOT filing on time, i did not owe any money but you HAVE to file anyway. i bought this software, loaded it up, and it picked up many of my investments' interest, dividends and my W-2 automatically online. this made things very easy. i printed it out, sent it USPS Certified to the IRS. the whole process took about two or three days, you see i am a procrastinator, hence the IRS calling me AND my family. Bottom line, if you are buying this particular version, the IRS might be calling you already. i bought it and was VERY happy, i bought the 2007 (tax year 2007) version also but downloaded it so it would be that much faster.

I was a big fan of Quicken 5 years ago, but this version is abysmal. Features that are advertised on the box, but "discontinued", a user interface that takes some time to get used to, and a serious bug that I can't get anyone at Quicken to respond to. I created a 401k account, added two mutual funds, gave them both initial balances, then corrected the balances when I found my account information. The problem is that the updated amounts are correct in the register, but are not correct in any other reports. I can't get it to refresh the data in the reports without deleting the account. I give up. Going to try to find a copy of Quicken from the mid 90's.

I had first tried Daylite several years ago when I returned to the Mac platform. The one application I really missed from the PC world was ACT. Although I thought Daylight was interesting, the learning curve was really steep - (it is sold without a printed manual - which you can order at an extra cost. - You do get a PDF version of their manual and a good help interface). After a while, I returned to using Now's popular CMS for the Mac. I recently gave Daylite another try, and am happy to report that Mac users now have a real CMS on-par with ACT and GoldMine. The bookkeeper 2008 works good for the most part. But what I dont like is that you cant get a report on the sales taxable amount and the wholesale amount seperately. It give the amount of tax collected, but not the amount that is taxed. It lumps everthing together, so when I go to figure the sales tax and all the other numbers I need it's a pain. I need to do the work manually that bookkeeper should do.
