I use this software to map out a garage sale route. It is simple and basic and allows me to flag each address on the route. Some of the features I could use in the future for a trip or something, but right now it's garage sales.

This is the worst mapping software I have ever used (and I have used most of those available). There is a position error of 200-500 feet everywhere but on major thoroughfares and DeLorme Tech support (???) can only say it's a problem with the map translations (???). I notice there is no 2007 version! I have found the same position errors in their laptop version. Microsoft Streets & Trips is dead-on in position everywhere... DeLorme should be totally embarassed since their only products are in this field! And they charge a lot more than Microsoft does... pathetic!

We've used this on cross-country trips. If you're in a remote location, without internet or cell service you can still plan your next leg of driving or get answers to questions. Just run the program on a lap-top computer off your vehicle's power. In several instances we were able to help fellow travellers too. It's like having an enormous pile of maps, but it fits in a tiny folder. Superb!

I bought this product because I am a subscriber to National Geographic and have always been impressed with their magazine and maps. I was a little dissapointed with this product, in that it does not always find the towns and streets I am looking for, and the searching methods are a bit unuserfriendly. I also do not like the fact that it is CD-based, with no option to install everything on the hard drive. I don't use it much because I don't like searching for the CD everytime I want to map something. It's easier to look up a map on the internet.

I have used Topo USA 4 for two years now and have found it to be a very good product for my needs. At first I found it frustrating to use but as I used my head and figured out how it works I really like it. Contrary to what some say, DeLorme always promptly responding to my inquiries on line. I think you have to be realistic about learning to use a product that is this complicated. It is amazing that you get maps covering the etire U.S. and the ability to download to a GPS for under a $100. Just using the maps for information would be worth that much. I have used TOPO USA to plan and map hikes in Co(on at least six fourteeners and dozens of other hikes ),UT,CA,TX,OR,NV,AZ,MN,ME,VT,MT,FL, and have never found any significant errors. GPS Compatibility... As advertised, TOPO! works well with GPS units. I use it with a Garmin Vista Cx GPS frequently. Other people's negative reviews concerning GPS compatibility probably stem from their assumption that they should be able to download the maps themselves to a GPS device. No, you can't do that with just TOPO. As advertised, you CAN download waypoints or routes before a trip, which becomes extremely helpful when you feel lost. And you CAN upload waypoints and tracks after a trip, which is very interesting to map where you've been. General Comments on the Software... This is an excellent product which I always use before going exploring or mountain climbing. I discover new features in the software all the time. I don't think the program has ever crashed ...
