When I was wondering about what gift to give to my niece who is fond of using PC and playing, my friend suggested to get her PC based kids software. I later did some research on all kinds of softwares available to by and found Readers Rabbit series the most appealing to kids. As suggested by friend I bought Math 6-9 and few other Readers Rabbit and they are great fun and learning experience for kids to start learning math. I definitely recommend this to all kids to learn math at early age.

My five year old grandson and I have had a wonderful time playing with this game. We learned a lot about logic, and we learned that we have different learning styles. The 2005 version which I got from Amazon (see separate listing) has a Mac OS X installer which installed this game flawlessly in less than a minute. I have no experience with the 2001 version. I tried 3-4 Reader Rabbit Programs. They are hard to use. The navigation is not good. It takes significant learning effort to get used to the programs. I work in Software from 10 years. If its difficult to navigate for me, the kids definitely will not be able to navigate freely. It will not allow you to skip something. If the kids are using the same thing again and again and They want to skip the things they are bored of they are out of luck. It will not allow skip. Apart from that the program is educational. Another negative: The program does not install on computer. Every time you need to put the CD in to run the program. Reader Rabbit has been around for a long time and it is a truly wonderful system to help children improve their reading skills. What could be better than playing a game while you learn? I used it when my children were growing up and now I'm providing Reader Rabbit for my granddaughter to help her retain and improve her reading skills over the summer. It is a win-win situation for the parent and the child. The game is plug and play so your child can play without your assistance.

This is a great teaching game for kids. The math skills can be adjusted for all levels of early math. The game content is fun and entertaining. Now my girls want the reading program in this series.

I had the same problem as others playing this on my Vista notebook and my XP desktop, but one of the other posters mentioned http://support.encoreusa.com/kb.asp?id=322 and I found http://support.selectsoft.com/products/O/LLORETR5TJ.htm both of which have OT5Patch.exe which is the patch that makes everything work. Great game, I remember it as a youth on the now ancient Apple ][e (lol), now my 9 year old daughter enjoys it just as much! If I could only get my hands on that old Swashbuckler game, or even Black Castle for my old Mac, I'd be one happy camper!
