Wow - is the new version of Rosetta Stone horrible. The logic that is used to go from lesson to lesson is utterly nonsensical and mind boggling. No prompts telling you to speak, listen, type - its tough enough to learn a language - never mind trying to figure out what the program wants you to do. If you are an older person who is not computer savvy - you're plain out of luck. Obviously there was ZERO/ZED user testing done on this sad excuse for a software program. Its confusing and I highly DO NOT recommend battling with this crap. Stay away.

My wife was disappointed at the difficulty of using the program. It needs better instructions up front and a more intuitive interface. A more computer-sophisticated user would not find it as difficult.

I felt I was getting "too old" to learn a new language but like magic, after 6 weeks of courses I was able to communicate easily on a recent trip to Spain. A bit frustrating at times with the pronunciations of words and I have gotten a few "giggles" from my Latin friends, but I'm still learning. Save your dollars up and then go with this quality set!

I toyed with Rosetta Stone years ago through a $20 intro package they had. It seemed promising, but the cost of the full package was and remains prohibitive for the casual learner. For professionals needing language training, I think this is an excellent package, but if starting cold, this would best complement classroom instruction. One other thing: for the money, you'd think the program would get you functional faster, e.g. travel french - where is the bathroom, i would like a glass of wine, etc. Instead, we have "the bicycles are yellow." Overall though, a very professional package.

Initially I was very excited about my purchase but when I received it and realized it was too much for my older computer, I was very disappointed. I thought that when I first read about it, the computer needs should have been spelled out more clearly. Thank you.

I have used other Rosetta Stone programs and really like the teaching method they use. Each lesson introduces new words and phrases, which are repeated in different ways. The repetition makes it easy to retain the language lessons. The lessons progress in a logical way, so each builds on what has come before. There were no technical problems for me in installing this program on my laptop running Windows XP. Installation takes a long time (it's a big program), but it worked perfectly. The headset is somewhat flimsy, but it works. Do turn the volume down VERY low before you start the program, or the sound will blast you out of your chair. I've tried other language programs and have done okay with them. I started with an audio book-type program and made it through about 24 hours of lessons before I realized it wasn't going to be enough. I then tried this Rosetta Stone Version 3 software. I was bummed at first that I had to be tethered to a computer to use the software to its full potential but found out pretty quickly that it wasn't as big a bother as I had expected it would be. The cool thing about this software is that it teaches you without making you translate or learning parts of speech or how to diagram the sentence and grammar.
