Software : Fireworks MX 2004 Upgrade

I honestly cannot imagine why anyone, given a choice, would use Fireworks. The program is absolutely crawling with bugs. It's slow. It lacks essential tools. Even the much-touted ability to handle both vector and bitmap graphics is likely to get in your way as much as help you.

To give an idea of the extent of bugs -- simple things the program can't handle -- if you copy a portion of a graphic and create a new file to drop it into, the new file will almost always be created slightly too big. Leaving you a one-or-two-pixel gap along a side.

My advice is clear: stick to Photoshop. Fireworks is something to use only if you don't have the money for the real thing.

I have no idea why another review here marks this program so low.I was just reading a special article from Computer Arts and they were reviewing the some of the worlds best Illustrators. I got it the article because the cover caught my attention the art was very detail and just phenomenal. As I read inside , on each artist review they all comment on what program they use mainly. The guy they featured on the cover did his in Free Hand.. well.. that was no surprise cause when I saw it I said to myself.. I could only pull this off if I had Freehand MX if I was to attempt to do it. And yes he stated thats all he mainly uses in his review. I said it before and I will say it again.. if you dont know how to use this program it will be useless to you. If you can draw and if you have a tablet ( which helps) ... Read More

Software : Macromedia Drumbeat 2000 eCommerce Edition

I have been using Drumbeat 2000 eCommerce edition for approximately 6 months now and absolutely love it! The "Starting Points" (pre-written website applications used for examples of various aspects of the app) really hammer home the basics. Macromedia has a very handy online database of tips & tricks for using Drumbeat as well. One thing that many 'hardcore' ASP/HTML coders will miss is the ability to view the source code as you go; this is only accessible after publishing the various pages and viewing source in another editor or in something like notepad. The shopping cart is a cinch to setup, and the overall layout of Drumbeat is very comfortable. I have created an online record store as well as 3 other sites - using Drumbeat for everything but image manipulation. This is a good application ... Read More

Macromedia has done a great job with this product; it is a comprehensive graphic creation package that works with both vector/based and pixel/based editing capabilities. Contrary to what all designers/developers think, FIREWORKS 4 integrates perfectly with Macromedia dreamweaver AND Macromedia Director.here are some of the things you can do with fireworks 4: *You can save a file as an editable png format and import it from director. You can go back to edit it using fireworks every time. Which is great, because now, we can consider that director has a developed vector/bitmap editor * Fireworks 4 gives a new meaning to the word wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) web creation tool. Rollovers are as easy to create as doing a drag and drop. And popup menus are very easy to create. You don't have to think about the programming. ... Read More

An excellent starter kit for mixing, creating and mastering your own musical creations. Essentially the same tools as B.I.A.S. Peak, with a slightly less flashy (b/w) display 9which can be customized to a limited degree. The Loop feature in the Control Drop Down Menu is particularly helpful for sample and loop based hip-hop and electronic production. A solid purchase for those of us who can't afford the whole Pro Tools / Cubase set-up right away.
