On the good side, we finally have OS X versions of these mainstay web design apps (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash); on the bad side, they are so buggy that one wonders if OS 9 was really that bad at all. Overall, Dreamweaver on my G4/733 feels MUCH slower than 4.01 did on a G3/333.

For example, the behavior of dragging the panels on the right side is very inconsistant. E.g., when attempting to resize the CSS panel to be longer to show more styles in my file, the cursor often does not turn into the double-headed arrow to indicate dragability; or the cursor disappears completely; dragging sometimes works, but more often doesn't. Or, when in code view, dragging across text to select results in a nasty redraw problem, with the code flashing on and off in rapid succession until you've ... Read More

Software : Dreamweaver MX Upgrade from Dreamweaver 3 or 4
I have been a user of Dreamweaver through versions 3 and 4. When I redesigned my site to make extensive use of CSS, I found that DW4 had a difficult time rendering the pages and would often crash. So, reading that MX had better CSS support, I upgraded based solely on that.

Indeed, Dreamweaver MX handles my CSS-styled pages with aplomb. But to my delight, it adds many features which I have found invaluable, such as "Snippets" (a library of code fragments you can insert anywhere), the ability to "cloak" folders so that they are not included when synchronizing to the server (invaluable for log and statistics folders on the server), the FTP log, a much improved style sheet editor, a nicer and more configurable workspace, and much, much more.

Dreamweaver MX is a delight to ... Read More

Earlier versions of DW were almost unusably buggy. Crashed every hour, and i'd discover new bugs every time i ran it. I'd report them and never see them listed as fixed bugs. Spent most of my time switching over to BBEdit to clean up the mess. This new version seems much less buggy so far - crashes are rare. (Of course that might be due in part to running it under OSX instead of OS9, but...) It still creates weird code at times, and has some other annoyances, but i have no serious complaints yet.
