I have been using Macromedia Products since version 2 of Dreamweaver. I have a thorough knowledge of Dreamweaver and Fireworks. I have a bit less of Flash yet I do use it from time to time to create flash elements in sites that are primarily driven by html or xhtml code. I don't use Freehand because I think it is perhaps the most poorly implemented of all illustration programs bar none. I have always hoped that Macromedia would take Freehand seriously... and till this day I am still hoping. Regarding the software... Dreamweaver is by far the most popular web development software on the planet. In fact it has more users than all other web development platforms combined. The Mac version of this program is TERRIBLE. It takes 3-10 seconds for each keystroke or command to appear on the screen, and I have a fast dual-processor G4 PowerMac. I'm amazed that this thing made it to the shelves in its current condition. And this is even AFTER applying the patch that's supposed to correct the slowness. I've been seeing reports this all over the net - dont buy this for Mac, as it's just about unusable.

It is an extremly useful product wihich I would immensly reccomend BUT the price is extremly high so it is impossible for normal people to have.

Get Macromedia Dreamweaver 4. They have turned this once great web design package into a hybrid cross of something that looks like Netscape/Flash and called it Dreamweaver MX 2004. I used Dreamweaver MX 2004 for a month, uninstalled it and went back to Dreamweaver 4. It really is that terrible and the work space is terribly cluttered making it very hard to work within. Bottom Line -- Get Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 instead if you can find it. Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 is a very good web design package that knocks Dreamweaver MX 2004 for ten. You will simply hate Dreamweaver MX 2004 when you install it on your system. I nearly barfed after a month of using that new completely hostile and non-user friendly piece of unstable and slow excuse for a web design software program. Get this instead ... Read More

To discredit Contribute because it doesn't allow you to resample images like Frontpage does is tantamount to going back to a horse and buggy because you don't like the windshield wipers on your new Lexus. Incredible. I've deployed this tool to a number of non-technical users to maintain their own corporate intranet web sites, and not one of them has been unhappy. It's not perfect, but it gets better with each new release. As we attempt to break people of the bad code and skills they developed with Frontpage, Contribute is a blessing.
