This product isn't beefy in the features department by any means, but it does have just the right amount of features for the price. I still wonder how well it will animate a rather long video, but I have yet the patients to create one. Overall a great product for the price. I would strongly recommend owning a webcam for capture though, or if you have a little more budget a video camera hooked into your Firewire port would be best (Just more pricey and over-the-top for those younger animators out there). I'd recommend this to parents who have kids that show creativity and maybe play to many video games. Get them involved in projects like this that encourage productivity with real rewards!

Purchased this product with the sincere hope of transfering VHS tapes and casette tapes to digital format. The product doesn't work on any of the computers I have tried (upwards of 7 systems). The customer support is rude and frankly not helpful. Their stock answer is that the system does not meet the operating requirements of the software, yet they have no useful tips on how to actually find the penultimate system evidently required for accurate operation of their program. Save your money and get something else. This program is a waste of time and resources.

I only tried this program with the VISTA operating so I can't speak for any of the others. This program gets one star only because there is no provision for negative numbers. The following problems were verified by Honestech tech support when I called them: Screen capture files were unavailable to any programs other than the built in viewer. You can't print them or use them in any other way. You can't single frame backward. If you overshoot the frame you were looking for you must use rewind to go back. When using rewind there is no video, only a decrementing elapsed-time clock making it very difficult to find a particular frame. When you do find a frame you want to capture you can't do a capture when paused, only when the dvd is playing. ... Read More

A few months ago, I was searching for a product to convert my VHS tapes to DVD format, as I am moving in the coming months and wanted to "downsize" a bit. The first product I chose was this one, and I was severely disappointed for a couple of reasons: First, any product of this nature involves a bit of an investment. One must buy DVD's and cases, as well as an audio/video cord (and probably an extra long one, if you don't have an extra VCR laying around, as it needs to be pretty near your computer). Now, that investment wouldn't be so bad if the finished product was satisfactory, but sadly that probably will not be the case. I've been doing some converting with another unit which requires that you have eklectricity (This unit doesn't) and I wanted something that was simple to use I have hundreds of audio cassettes of concerts and radio broadcasts and wanted to preserve them. . Though the Audio Recorder 2.0 has capabilities of recording and converting from LPs, you need room next to your PC to put a turntable. So, so far I'm only doing cassettes.
