The big book inside the box is NOT the "Teach Yourself..." text. It is the manual for the C++ 4.5 complier for 16 bit applications in Windows 1.0. (Does ANYONE still use Windows 1.0?!) The "Teach Yourself..." text is available online for free, at least in its 21 day version (by the same author). You will probably be unsuccessful choking down object oriented programming in a new language in 14 days. I understand 6 weeks is average. I took about 5 weeks. I already had experience with some older programming languages (BASIC, Fortran, DB, Korn), and I'm fairly adept at these sorts of things. So I bought this item. At first he had some difficulty with converting the files he already had, but after talking with the teacher and other students, he now has it up and running. He likes the program, but as he is only using it for his own enjoyment, we did not need to worry about copyrite issues. For what we needed it for, it works great.

This is one of the best programming anvironment I've ever used. If you like c++ and want all windows, buttons, frames, databases elements ready to use this is just for you. In the box Windows and Linux (kylix ) version is included. I have not run linux version yet. I did a very large program to analyses internet discission for my MC using it!

I'm a self-taught novice programmer, so these comments are not geared towards for the experts. Borland's C++ Builder is light years ahead of MS Visual C++ (which is an extremely painful programming environment). C++ Builder is like Visual Basic for C++. It's really easy to learn, and I've been able to get results very quickly. The only problem with C++ Builder is the lack of documentation. Borland is obviously not the market leader, consequently it's harder to find helpful, intelligent C++ Builder books than it is to find books for VB, Access, VC, ASP, SQL or other programming languages.
