I'm going to try be as unbiased as possible when doing this review, so I will try to curb my praises for the meritorious Bit Defender program. Yes, I admit I have used this program in the past, so please don't hold it against me because I loved it then, and sorry, I still do. Now for the past 3 years, though, I have been using McAfee, so that is what I can compare it to, and have not used any other program. Contrary to other peoples' posts on here about the product being a pain to install, I encountered no such thing. You place the CD in the tray, and it uses a website like installation progression. I purchased BitDefender based on the claims of 24/7 support and reviews that I read on the internet that their support was excellent. This is not what I encounted. I purchased the 2 YR/ 3PC product and installed it on three computers. Each one of the computers began to have problems, so I tried to obtain the supposed 24/7 support. It was not there. I called the 800 number repeatedly over many days. I NEVER not through. I would go into an un-ending stream of recorded music and periodic remainders of why I should the on-line knowledge base. I did try the online knowledge based, but could not find the answer to my question. At one point I tried the chat service. The person listened to my problem and said I would get an email. I downloaded the Trial version of Bitdefender Internet Security 2009 on three computers. On two of them it created problems with the internet connection I have at home. So I decided to go with the Bitdefender Antivirus 2009. On all 3 computers, it seems that it works fine, no major problems, keeps everything on the background. A couple of times you can see that when you open a program it will delay a little bit, because the Bitdefender is checking it, but this is not an issue for me. Overall, it does not add up a lot processing time, not overloads the processor. Two of the 3 computers I put it on, are 5 and 6 year old laptops... The only problem I have with this software is that it will not load during startup. I have to load it manually. I believe it is essential that this type of software be loaded at startup. I am attempting to resolve the issue with the manufacturer.

Got this software right when it came out and it's everything Consumer Reports said it was. My PC is running like new... in fact better than new. Norton was slowing the thing down terribly. It also found a slew of viruses that Norton did not find. The other features like the gaming mode and file vault make this software a bargain. Definitely worth the #1 ranking!

Perhaps Bitdefender was incompatible with my PC ----but is sure screwed it up--BIG TIME. It cost me over $100 to have my computer doctor to right the mess. I followed all the directions to a tee, and this security program just made more problems. Never again will I order this product. AMAZON was wonderful---refunded my money. THANK YOU AMAZON!!!

I discovered that this software's effectiveness in keeping computers "clean" was highly rated by several software review websites. That gave me a lot of reassurance that I was making the right decision when I purchased this software. However, I have had trouble with this product working properly since I first put it on my computer. It has at times shown me errors along with a "fix" button that does not work when I click it. And if it does have a problem, you don't get alerted with a message popping up on your screen... you have to be attentive enough to notice a change in the tiny BitDefender icon running in your task bar, such as the icon turning grey or displaying a "warning" symbol.
