Having had 2 years of college Spanish, and having been in an immersion program in Ecuador for 10 weeks - the value of this software is tremendous. As a stand alone course with out any other Spanish training, I would find it mentally challenging to master. But to complement a high school or college class, it is very good. My complaint is that running on my AMD64 computer, it is a little slow. Version 3 is a big improvement over V2, with less emphasis on the progressive tense. The future and past tense are introduced earlier, and is very helpful in the early language development. I wish there was a little more of a pause at the end of some lessons for you to review the sentences, vocabulary, and spelling. Instead, the answer are flashed quickly, and the next question ... Amazon needs to remove the Mac Leopard compatibility. This is strictly a Windows product. Fortunately, I run Vista through Boot Camp on my Mac. Otherwise, this would be useless. Please update your listing, Amazon!

I'm giving this product a "2", only because of the company's behavior, not because of the product. The product is good, but overpriced. If the price and company were reasonable, it could warrant a 4. I have purchased Rosetta Stone products twice. Most recently V.3 German, level III, hoping to brush up on my abilities. I found though, that level III really still was not up to my level (I've been active with the language for 22 years). So, I sought to simply resell it and recoupe some of my money. However, I found that Rosetta Stone and Amazon, along with other retailers, have entered into an unholy pact to stop customers from reselling the products that they have bought and paid for. I have been trying to learn French for the past couple of years without much luck. I found using a book boring and difficult to teach myself with. After the book I tried learning through a teacher, but that was time consuming and expensive. Since I have been using the Roestta Stone I am amazed at how fast and easy it is to learn the language. The way they structure the learning through photographs so you are not translating word for word is amazing.

This product had me finally understanding verb conjugation! No small feat. If you are a visual learner who gets bored memorizing vocabulary, this is for you!

While my experience with the CD glued to the sleeve was the same as the other review, I found that denatured alcohol would remove the glue quite well. Rosetta really should look into this. Beyond this small problem I have found this product to be exactly as promised. It is the easiest, fastest, and in my experience the most successful method of learning a new language in the shortest amount of time. Love this product, take your time and it will stick. We purchased V3 levels 1 & 2, it has a very simple interface which allows you go to over certains areas multiple times so have fun and plan for some private as you will have to master your speech as you are working with excerises.

I actually live in Germany at the moment. I'm on my fourth year here, so you might say I'm immersed in the langauge. My confession is I don't speak German. How could this be you say? Well everyone likes to speak English to me. I have enough other interesting things to do with my time than sit through boring lessons at home. I've never been good at the whole language thing. I guess that's how my brain is wired. Even after a few years immersed, I hear German all the time (mostly as background noise) but I might have a 2 year old level of understanding. I've tried a few other audio and text language packages before but I'd usually fall asleep and not be interested. I know learning a language takes time and effort, but the medium has to be engaging. I have just completed Unit 1. I have major issues with this product. First and foremost is the teaching methodology. There was no instruction or theory. You simply begin by clicking buttons and interacting; it seems as though the software was engineered for a child. I am not suggesting that interaction should not play a role in language learning software, but rather that to ignore theory from the beginning (as Rosetta Stone has) is inexcusable from my personal viewpoint. Secondly, its far too expensive; you pay monopolistic pricing for a product that could be much better and much cheaper. If I had it to do over, I probably would not buy it; I certainly wish there had been a more critical and sober review of this product.
