I have been using Elements 2 for some time and find it to be an excellent tool yet I felt ready to upgrade and liked the new features that 6 offers. The reason I am not buying PE 7 is because 1. Based on reviews the only significant difference is heavy marketing of web albums (I am a flikr user so don't need) and option to change background color (I like the greys). I downloaded the free version first (which everyone should do as there are some complaints about system stability) and found no problems with crashing and so forth. There is a significant upgrade in quality compared to the earlier version, especially in the image enhancing tools which is what I principally use. Nice piece of software, but is limited. I have worked with several of the Adobe products and all do a nice job by allowing the user to make adjustments to photos. Personally, I thought this was a little pricey for the options that it gave. I was hoping that I could do all of my adjustments within the framework of this software, but instead find myself importing and exporting my photo from one piece of software to another. iPhoto even has several options that this doesn't. I feel that the Adobe products are over hyped and then in this case offer little. On the Windows side, Microsoft's Picture It even has some options that this doesn't. One basic that I think this is missing is the ability to stitch photos together for a panoramic effect. To do this I had to obtain Cannon's PhotoStitch. My suggestion ... Read More

I tried Lightroom 2, Capture NX and Aperture. They are all very good programs but I chose Aperture because of it's ease of use and intuitive user interface. I'm able to make some striking images and repair images that would seem to be a lost cause. The huge number of 3rd party plugins is just a bonus.

I started to use Capture NX when it first came out.When Nikon upgraded to Capture NX 2 I bought it`s full version since I never I never had a backup disk.Most of my pictures are shot in raw files and I like what capture NX 2 can do with it.I also like to use this program to process my jpg. files from other cameras.A short learning period is needed to fully appreciate this program with it`s unique tools.For some more complicated adjustments I still like to use Photoshop.

This product is wonderful, it allows you to do anything with a photo. It is not a sit down and start using program and does take some time to learn. The book is well worth reading because it is a bit complicated. However, once you learn how to use it, its super simple and can easily change any photo into a great portrait.
