I've been using Movie Magic for over 15 years and lemme tell you this is the worst version ever! It's amazing, but they've screwed up so much in this "new & improved" version that it's almost not worth reviewing (let alone buying). Large chunks of what you're writing will suddenly vanish from the screen because of a margin wraparound bug; call tech support and they'll tell you not to worry because it's not really gone - it's just not there on the screen. What? Huh? You also get error messages for no apparent reason that will send you in endless loops of frustration that would make Kafka proud. In short, do yourself a favor: BUY FINAL DRAFT. Loyalty schmoyalty, that's what I'm going to do!

I'm a writer, here's my story. I bought Final Draft mainly because I felt I needed to upgrade from Microsoft Works or get left behind. Well, I've worked with Final Draft for a while, and to be honest I do not think it was worth the $150.00 dollars + postage. It's very hard to format scripts, especially ones that had been saved in other formats - it adds all these extra spaces and it's terribly time consuming to remove them. Also, it sometimes adds in a character heading when one isn't needed and it's very difficult to get rid of those showing up all the time.
I cannot figure out how to use the Tagger part at all. The most disappointing part for me was that it DOES NOT read the scripts back - it does however save your script in a new format that you cannot add to. And finally my last complaint is that ... Read More

Though I've never sold a screenplay, I keep writing them, keep trying, and my tool is Final Draft. This is an awesome piece of screenwriting software, perfect for a screenwriter wannabe like me. I have been using it for a long time now. The software formats your screenplay for you in proper format, which is invaluable and it saves you oodles of time. It also comes with several other features that help you write the best screenplay you can. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to be a screenwriter, or already is one and worries about formatting.

Software : Microsoft OneNote 2003 [Old Version]
Having been through graduate school collecting copious notes on secondary literature, and collecting stacks and stacks of notes, I've been looking for a product -- and played with several different ones -- that could "collect all my thoughts."

OneNote is the one that comes closest. Now, it affords me the opportunity to collect notes about my customers -- better than a CRM program! -- write down ideas for speeches I want to give or articles I want to write, and help me remember my karate forms.

But, OneNote requires a lot of dedication, especially at the beginning, as you learn the whole tabbed structure for organizing your work.

Finally, I've recently given up on this product, since I can only really work on it on one computer. But, my life now isn't confined to one ... Read More

Software : Microsoft OneNote 2003 [Old Version]
First of all, I am not a big fan of most microsoft software. I do like their operating systems but I feel that almost every other microsoft program has a superior and cheaper competitive software package. However, they have really done something with One Note.

One Note is a program designed for taking notes. I think microsoft had students in mind because as a student, I got a copy for free. So, I thought I would try it. I never thought taking notes on the computer would be so easy and so helpful. I don't actaully use it for class (prefer a notebook), but I use it all the time for other computer related items.

One Note has an infrastructure to allow a complicated system of organized notes, if you want. Or, if you just want to jot a bunch of information down in one place on your computer ... Read More

8.Kaplan GMAT/GRE/LSAT 2006 Platinum (PC) from: Topics Entertainment

Software : Kaplan GMAT/GRE/LSAT 2006 Platinum (PC)
Although I purchased several study aids, including Kaplan GRE Exam in a Box (which I also recommend), this little software package became my primary study tool.
My test prep was focused on the GRE. When I first installed the software and started poking around, the graphics seemed a little too "cutesy". But then I took the initial diagnostic exam, and was given approximate baseline scores which seemed quite reasonable (given that my high school math is about 30 years in the past, and I had done exactly no preparation).
Once the diagnostic is complete, the program builds a study program for you, which you can work through it at your own pace. That helped a great deal. The lessons brought back lots of old knowledge, and provided some shortcuts as well.
The program also includes computer-based flashcards ... Read More

9.MICROSOFT OneNote 2003 Academic Edition ( Windows ) from: Microsoft Software

Software : MICROSOFT OneNote 2003 Academic Edition ( Windows )
I usually adhere to low-tech solutions to my problems, but note-taking and organization has always been something I've failed miserably at. OneNote has been an absolute blessing. I can sit in class and look-up what the teacher is talking about with Google or Wikipedia and then copy images/text directly from web pages into OneNote. It's incredibly simple to use. My only complaint is that it deviates from standard Office formatting practices in that I can't use predefined or define a set of styles for text. If I want to have a subject heading, I just have to bold it and increase the font manually. Overall, I'm still really happy with it, though. I've barely touched the full functionality of OneNote and am curious to see what else it can do.

10.Storybase Software for Writers from: Ashleywilde Publishers
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

>>More Details
Software : Storybase Software for Writers
First of all, everyone should know that this software will NOT write your story for you. Rather, it provides a vast library of different possibilities ("conflict situations") which can be personalized with your character names. This is a great tool for exploring new ideas - for an individual scene - and for an overall theme. It also helps in the discovery of character motivations and nuances. This program is fun to use and is a reliable cure for writer's block.
