The Rosetta Stone V3 is well crafted and useful but... I initially had some technical problems with it's operation on my Apple. After many weeks and calls, I finally had to reload the whole program. I still have to restart it every so often when the voice recognition software starts hiccuping. My main complaint is that I spent a substantial amount of time with the program but still haven't developed the confidence to converse while in Latin America. This is because this program's concept is immersion but you are not told why one answer is correct and another is not. There is no technical understanding of pronouns, adverbs etc. Also, they have no available printout of the words you learn so you can review them at a later time.

I'm giving this product a "2", only because of the company's behavior, not because of the product. The product is good, but overpriced. If the price and company were reasonable, it could warrant a 4. I have purchased Rosetta Stone products twice. Most recently V.3 German, level III, hoping to brush up on my abilities. I found though, that level III really still was not up to my level (I've been active with the language for 22 years). So, I sought to simply resell it and recoupe some of my money. However, I found that Rosetta Stone and Amazon, along with other retailers, have entered into an unholy pact to stop customers from reselling the products that they have bought and paid for. Well structured with repetition yet variety. The photos are excellent and interesting. Recommend doing a lesson daily for best results.

While my experience with the CD glued to the sleeve was the same as the other review, I found that denatured alcohol would remove the glue quite well. Rosetta really should look into this. Beyond this small problem I have found this product to be exactly as promised. It is the easiest, fastest, and in my experience the most successful method of learning a new language in the shortest amount of time. Love this product, take your time and it will stick. We purchased V3 levels 1 & 2, it has a very simple interface which allows you go to over certains areas multiple times so have fun and plan for some private as you will have to master your speech as you are working with excerises.

I bought to learn for a trip. I have done 2 lesson plans and am retaining everything thus far. I love the way the program works.

I have just completed Unit 1. I have major issues with this product. First and foremost is the teaching methodology. There was no instruction or theory. You simply begin by clicking buttons and interacting; it seems as though the software was engineered for a child. I am not suggesting that interaction should not play a role in language learning software, but rather that to ignore theory from the beginning (as Rosetta Stone has) is inexcusable from my personal viewpoint. Secondly, its far too expensive; you pay monopolistic pricing for a product that could be much better and much cheaper. If I had it to do over, I probably would not buy it; I certainly wish there had been a more critical and sober review of this product.

I have to admit how impressed I am with this product. The "immersion" approach to teaching you the language is highly effective and I find that the material sticks with me. I would have given this product 5 stars, but I decided to give it 4 stars for the following reasons: 1. You are taught the language via process of elimination, viewing what the characters are doing, etc. In a few cases, its not clear to me what word is trying to be taught and I have to look up the word that I am not sure about. 2. The voice recognition technology works about 90% of the time. These are minor reasons and I have no regrets about my purchase, but I just wanted to share my experience.

The web page I purchased the 1, 2 and 3 package from clearly lead me to believe that it included the Audio Companion for I Pod with the purchase. When it arrived I found that it did not. The software crashes occasionally but not so often that it is intolerable. The speaking function works most of the time but on some words doesn't so you just have to hit fast forward. My headset broke on the 4th day of use I had to buy another one. I am learning however do not like the fact that the headset broke or that they didn't ship me what I purchased.

This is a great tool for learning the language via immersion. Rather than teaching through a structural method in which the mechanics and vocabulary of any given language are laid out in an organized manner, with Rosetta stone you learn mostly through pictures and figuring things out on your own. This works really well as a means of forcing you to confront and use the language based on hearing, rather than reading, but I personally have found that it still works better as just a supplement to a more traditional structural textbook approach to learning the language.
