[I've been an Ed. Tech. for 37 years] Dang this Sharp XR-30X DLP projector I just bought! I got it for our elementary school's auditorium gatherings because our 3 other projectors are getting rather popular for classroom use lately. So I set it up with a couple of the others...and, well, now I'm gonna have to go buy MORE of 'em 'cause the Sharp makes the rest of our projectors look so OLD! And for $600! I now know why a projector's contrast ratio is a more prominent spec in website stores. It definitely makes the Sharp, uh, sharp! But its high contrast also does NOT affect(negatively), as so many other video projs do, its color range or intensity or the natural appearance of skin tones. This projector will have been with me for three years this coming Christmas and it is still on its first bulb and going strong. It is versatile in the fact that it can show perfect images of 16:9 and 4:3, 4:3 if you are still not on HDTV at 16:9, or you can convert your 4:3 image to a great looking 16:9 with the touch of a button. Set was a breeze, learning the controls was a breeze, and the picture is impressive even when compared to models I have seen in use that run in the $3,000 range. Unless you have more money than sense or your eyes can see things that mine don't, this is the projector for you. Who needs 643 features, this bad boy does everything you will need it to do. I run computer occasionally, but mostly DVD and Sat. TV. Good luck.

It is a very good product, it has an excellent and nice resolution. Finally the image in the computer and in the projector is exactly the same.

I originally purchased the Mitsubishi HC1500 DLP projector, but had some problems with it. Ordered this one from amazon and put them side by side. This isn't a review so much as a comparison between 3 Chip LCD and SINGLE CHIP DLP (which tend to be in the same price range). I actually liked the HC1500 a lot, but ended up keeping this SONY VLPAW10 for a number of reasons. It's not perfect, and in some areas underperforms the DLP. Here's the comparison. Single chip DLP projectors create images by having a "chip" filled with thousands of tiny mirrors (1 per pixel on the screen) that can tilt up and down. When they tilt, they send light to the screen, when they don't tilt, the light stays in the projector. This ends up creating wonderfully bright and brilliant images. The only problem with this ...
