Not that many years ago camcorders were about the size of microwave ovens, recorded VHS tapes, and had to be positioned on shoulders to take clear shots. The first change was the 8mm tape which was very compact and aloed for cameras that only weighed a few pounds. But a lot of people didn't want to buy them because they couldn't play them on their new VHS video cassette recorder. But along came digital tape and fewer and fewer people lugged around shoulder mounted cameras on their pilgrimages to Walt Disney World. Love this camera for both home movies and still photos. With a 1 gig card it holds over 2k images on high quality. The battery life is excellent, although I still recommend a second battery. The video quality is outstanding for home movies, on board mic pics up sounds great. I would suggest a case to put this in, as well as extra battery, and plenty of tapes. It has replaced both my digital camera and old camcorder. A wonderful buy for anyone shooting home video and more.

I moved from a Sony Hi-8 camera that we had for 5 years prior to this, and the first word out of my mouth was "Wow!" The tape-based camera was great for an NTSC camera. The video and audio quality were great for home movies and the occasional training videos that I used it for at work. Aside from the fact that it was a standard def picture, the biggest complaint was for the need for tapes. Needless to say, that old camera is now gathering dust. No tapes, no memory cards means that you can take hours and hours of video without having to worry about missing anything (except when your battery runs out, so keep a spare). I selected this camera because it was way more convenient than the digital video camera I have been using. I wanted something that could fit in my pocket and upload video easily to grandparents. So far I have used this camera only a few times, and been really disapointed. My main concern is the image quality - photos are sometimes good quality, but frequently blurry or out of focus and video breaks up into pixelation every 10 to 15 seconds. I do not know if I have a bad camera or if this is just the expected quality. I am really sorry I bought this camera rather than waiting for lots of others to post experiences.

I purchased this camera for my 8-year-old son after his other camera broke. It is much better than the other one. It is made better and it has more features. It has a flash and records sound, which some of the other kids quality cameras don't. It's also easy to use. I would recommend it.

I just bought this camera and it works on my MacBook. You need a firewire cable to import your movie into iMovie 06 and everything is fine. For the money it is OK. I do stop action animation so that is why I bought it. (I have not tried it yet in iMovie 08, so I don't know if it imports into that.) You can download iMovie 06 for free if you have iMovie 08 from the Apple site.
