I received one of these as a promotional. Functionally, it was totally cool. I dropped it. It broke. Done. It was a small drop. The type of drop my regular camera has experienced multiple times. The type my mobile phone has experienced multiple times. Etc. Nope. Dead. If you do buy one, buy yourself a case for padding - but the plastic is pretty thin stuff. Or buy yourself a camera that can do all these things and not break after a little wear and tear.

I got this camcorder wearily because I wasn't sure how good it would be. It's a LOT better than I expected. I love the video quality and am not finding much difference between the high and web qualities. It's so light, small and portable! I am a counseling student and I am going to use this to tape my practice and it's perfect! It's also easy to write to DVDs and upload online. I'll post a video review shortly. The two bad things about it are: I am worried about the USB dongle breaking... hopefully it'll stay put! And the still photos are pretty bad but I did not get it for that purpose.

I think this is the best you can do without going into the prosumer +$2000 level. Here is what sets it apart from the average cheap camcorder: 1. The ability to shoot progressive frames. This is invaluable for those filming for the internet. Plus, progressive frames compress better; one of the reasons store bought movies look better than average joe's. 2. The ability to white balance. Especially with blue/green screening, this is very helpful. Good luck finding it on the average consumer camcorder. 3. Native 1920x1080 sensor times 3. This camera is not FakeD - it's real HD. When it scales, it scales DOWN, not up. I selected this camera because it was way more convenient than the digital video camera I have been using. I wanted something that could fit in my pocket and upload video easily to grandparents. So far I have used this camera only a few times, and been really disapointed. My main concern is the image quality - photos are sometimes good quality, but frequently blurry or out of focus and video breaks up into pixelation every 10 to 15 seconds. I do not know if I have a bad camera or if this is just the expected quality. I am really sorry I bought this camera rather than waiting for lots of others to post experiences.

this one star is for amazon, the item i received was with many scracthes around the body, with cables unhooked, even the battery for the remote controller was placed in. this is a definitely used camera. how could this happen from such a big amazon, unbelievable. i would not bother if they had told me this is refurbished item, but they sell it as brand new. the item could even be defective I do not know.

This is an excellent camera. It is so easy to use. The captured video does not capture ghost movements, if you move the camera quickly to record. I bought one for myself, and one for my 6 year old granddaughter. She was able to master the controls, and record 48 personal videos. The playback on the TV was excellent. The resolution was superb. I recommend the FLIP Ultra over the other models, because the AA batteries make it very optional, especially if you are traveling. I purchased the black model for myself, and the pink color for my granddaughter. The black model has a velvet glove texture, while the pink has a shiny plastic housing. It also gives you many options found on expensive production video equipment. A real asset is the 32 GB flash memory since this assures that you will have plenty of on board storage and no tape or hard drive to break. Simply take your time in turning it off and your data will be saved properly. Color is excellent and the stabilation works very well. What a great product. Have been very happy with it. Only problem is that the battery life does not outlast the disk space so it is probably not worth getting an extra card unless you want to store your videos on the camera itself. Also, the joystick provided does not function as well. The screen should've been touch screen.
