i like this product because you don't really need to be wasting time with CD/DVD. sounds really sucks. kinda ok sound. picture is very good. it's not top notch HD video. looks very good. if you want true HD buy something else. for the money , no problem. i still recommend it for the price . other then that if this thing was $500 bucks or more i would definitely say hell no. enjoy. !

I am a total novice to video cameras let alone DVD cams. This little camera works great! I love the 1000x zoom feature. One thing that people in the other reviews had problems with was mini-dvd's not working. Well - if they would have read the little book, they would have seen that the camera only works with DVD-R or DVD-RW discs. Not +R or +RW. Yes! There is a difference. Still picture feature was a selling point for me. It takes great digital stills. Great, easy to use, light weight, and user friendly!

My parents have a JVC mini-DV camcorder, purchased several years ago, which works very well for them. Sadly, that camera works better for me than this one. That one does video through i.LINK, this one doesn't. That one uses conventional mini-DV tapes. On this one, the tapeless workflow is very nice, but only as long as you don't try to work with the video in anything fancier than the software included with it. Which, if you're on a Mac, means that it's iMovie or bust (bleh) because they give you a Quicktime codec and that's it. The TOD format isn't recognized by Adobe Premiere Pro without a third-party codec which I hear costs a bundle, if I could even find it. I admit, I jumped on what looked like a bargain and got stung badly.

I've taken this camera on multiple outtings now, I have used it for a San Francisco vacation and several family functions. It is a great camera and I highly recommend it. I am not a novice but I'm not an expert and the camera seems fancier than I ever will need. It's easy to use and I love the touch screen but I HIGHLY recommend you get the bigger battery. I did and the big batter will be all you ever need. It also makes DVD's very easily with it's software, and I had no problems using any function.

I bought mine in late 2005, but didn't use it when I was overseas because the supplied software was TERRIBLE and I never could get it to work. I ended up using the video capture on my separate Digital camera. So, a year later, I fired it up this week and spent an entire day trying to play a video I recorded yesterday on my PC... being a digital video novice, here are the caveats you need to know after I spent all day on it, plus read all 43 review before this one: - I like the features of the camera, the zoom and fold out screen, but the pain is usability and working with the videos or pictures once you take them.
