This is a light weight and easy to use camera with exceptional editing software. Almost everything is positive. It records in 1080i but can play back in 1080P. It only allows 3 pictures while recording a video. The pictures are good but not great. I am not disappointed in the pictures but it is a HD camcorder and the video is excellent. The quality of the video is excellent if not superb. It has a ton of capacity and it turns on quick. It has a manual lens cover, but at least it won't break. You will need a bag to go with it. This camera is really easy to use. The screen is big and clear and the menus easy to follow. The stabilizer works well and very easy with the USB cable to transfer your video to the pc and burn a dvd. It saves the video in AVI format that plays without manipulation on the pc and on compatible dvd players. Highly recommended.

I've had the HDR-UX20 for about 2 weeks now and have used it to record my sons football games and daughters volleyball games. I record the games to an 8GB duo pro memory stick at SP HQ quality and have been satisfied with the results. When I get home I insert the memory stick into a Sony VRD-MC5 DVD recorder, push record and copy the video to DVD. The mini DVD's only record about 20 mins of HQ video so I use full size DVD's on the MC5. I like the versatility of being able to record in HD, and recording on the internal memory, memory stick, or DVD. I had my last video camera for 7 years, so I wanted something that gave me maximum flexibility in recording media, and wanted to be able to record in HD and SD. i had an inferior model of a jvc camcorder and it was stolen. i got this one off amazon to replace it, as it was less money than what i originally paid for my previous cam about a year or more before. well, i used it like twice and then out of nowhere it starts giving me an error message every time i put a tape in and popping them back out with the dv cassette's tape mangled and tore up one. i did some quick searching online about the problem and it turns out its a fairly common problem with this model and similar types. and the only way to fix it is actual hands on repair/part replacement. so i got a sony instead. stay away from this one.

This is an excellent camera. It is so easy to use. The captured video does not capture ghost movements, if you move the camera quickly to record. I bought one for myself, and one for my 6 year old granddaughter. She was able to master the controls, and record 48 personal videos. The playback on the TV was excellent. The resolution was superb. I recommend the FLIP Ultra over the other models, because the AA batteries make it very optional, especially if you are traveling. I purchased the black model for myself, and the pink color for my granddaughter. The black model has a velvet glove texture, while the pink has a shiny plastic housing.
